| Dateline Thursday, February 22 2007 Champaign Illinois MAJOR 2.4 Ghz Spread Spectrum Release! Article written by: Maxon Duncan Today Horizon Hobby and Spekrtum have announced an incredibly exciting line of 2.4 Ghz Spread Spectrum products! Yup, you guessed it – modules galore and a new 9 channel AR9000 receiver!! No more vaporware, hype, or module frustration - The wait is over folks! With Spektrum’s new offerings, you can convert your existing JR 10x, 10es, 8103, and 9303’s to 2.4 in jiffy. Here’s the bombshell – modules have been announced for Futaba and Hitec systems including the MZ’s and 9c’s! FlyingGiants has learned that these modules have been under development for the past 36 months with 19 major versions and incredible amounts of testing with surprisingly better performance than existing 72mhz modules. What we are seeing today is the result of the hard work of many people within the Spektrum organization. Namely Paul Beard – modeler at the core, friend, and the dude who made 2.4 a reality. We look forward with anticipation to more 2.4 announcements from the major industry players! We’ll have full product details posted shortly along with some other off the chart announcements! Toby, pull out the stock antenna, replace it with Spektrum antenna. They are designed to fit snugly into the existing antenna base. Short black wire comes off the back, plugs into the back of the module. The antenna mount on the module is surprisingly small and should not interfere with trays.

And some more photos for ya! This is the AR9000 9 channel receiver. The receiver has two dataports that can be used individually for a secondary receiver on either side, or both can be used for added redundancy. Cool! According to Paul, "The 9 Channel receiver is "telemetry ready". It has a "DATA" port that exports QOS info and link timing to a future external telemerty transmitter. The DATA port is currently used for an external device called "FLIGHT LOG" that displays radio statistics so that you can see how solid the link is." The Flight Log module is sitting piggy back on top of the AR9000. It's a pretty cool little bugger! Reports all kinds of diagnostics from the receiver including glitches and a number of other items of interest for pilots.
