Default Re: FlyingGiants Exclusive! Introducing The Futaba 12FG, Modules & More!

I currently have a 9Z and 2 PCM crystaled futaba receivers in my 42% dalton.

Looks like my options ore:

Get the modules for my 9z and 2 2.4 receivers
Get the module for my 9Z and 1 2.4 receiver
( I prefer 2 if it can be done, duplicate or elimimate any single point failure)
Get a 12fg 1 or 2 receivers
Get a 12Z module and 1 or 2 receivers

Besides being built for 2.4 does the 12fg have any other advantages over the 12z?

I would prefer to have the option to have 72mkz or 2.4ghz since i have a lot of other planes and receivers on 72mhz.

Would my 9z if upgraded with the module be as fast as a 12z or 12fg?

When are we gonna see a price list.

I have a feeling that with wireless routers and cordless phones and and cell phones being near the 2.4ghz range that this technology in our radios will get cheaper before it gets more expensive due to the comercial volume avalibility of parts.

If you update a 12Z with the new transmitter module would it still work with Futaba's R5014/R5114 synthesized receivers? In other words, would the transmitter be backward compatible with non-FASST receivers? I hope so because I would get some planes updated with new receivers but still have planes with non-FASST receivers I'd want to fly with the 12Z anyway until I was able to convert all my receivers over time.

Information that I have seen says that failsafe is programmed through the transmitter. It will apparently function much like current PCM failsafe. Low throttle setting and other controls either set to hold or go to a programmed position.

I'm sure the 12FG will work that way. I can imagine the 12Z and 14Z could as well with some software glue.

What I really want to see how it's going to be done on a 9Z ?

Since no hardware changes are required to use the SS modules I cannot see why you can not go back and forth. On the 14MZ I go from 50 to 72 with a touch of the screen. I suspect the SS will work the same way.

Hi Bob
Futaba just upgraded the software to provide 12 channel PPM - we don't know yet if the Futaba modules use PPM or not.

It all has to do with the components they use. These radios are made with low volt-low current ICs. 72MHz Multiplex Evos have been using low volt-low current stuff for years with great success. My Evo-9 will run for close to 8 hours on a charge and it has the stock 1500mAh 6-cell NiMH pack in it.

If the 12FG proves to be anywhere near as efficient, that - in and of itself - may be good reason to upgrade to a new radio rather than a new module.

I have a sneakin' suspicion that this Futaba news is only one of several revelations we'll see 'tween now and the end of the Toledo show.

Anyone know if the antenna on the 12/14mz can be swapped with one similar to the 12FG?
