Some of you have seen this in the forums wondering who Tiny is, and it’s time we bring her out. Meet Tiny, the FlyingGiants traveling plane! Tiny is the mastermind of a FG members Andy Pro1, Matt Underwood, Gareth Farrington and many donators and supporters . The initial concept was to build a plane, gather all the electronics and a crate, and ship it to FG members across the country, and worldwide. The concept is now a reality, and I gotta tell ya, it’s pretty darn cool! Today, myself, Brett “Heydick”, and Edson and Sam from Fliton took a stroll down to The Huntington Beach Pier for a photo op of Tiny’s journey through Southern California. The weather couldn’t have been better, and Tiny had the opportunity to breath some fresh costal air. After about a 2 minute flight, we all signed her wings, stuffed her in the crate, and with a satisfied smile, sent her on her way. Tiny was born just a few short months ago, and has now logged thousands of miles with just a few short stops. Somehow I ended up on the early part of the list, and the brown truck dropped off a beautifully made crate on my doorstep. Tiny is tucked away and protected in her travels in a very well thought out and designed crate made by FG member Kenny “Boulder”. All the parts to mend and maintain her are contained within a small compartmentalized organizer, complete with batteries and even a transmitter! This entire Tiny project is more than just a road foamy. It’s a symbol for the sharing of the passion for modeling with our FlyingGiants friends and brothers. While Tiny is still new, she has a long and hopefully endless road ahead of her, and will touch many people along the way just as she did the Socal FG Crew. Farewell for now little buddy!! And happy landings! Flightlog: Location: Huntington Beach, HB Pier. California, 92627 Date: August 1, 2007 Time: aprox. 1:00 pm pacific time Flight time: aprox 2 minutes Pilot: Max Duncan & Brett Bayless Photos by: Brett Bayless Comments: small iddy biddy insignificant tear in EPP near top right wing bolt. Will leave repair up to the Norcal gang. Shipping to: Brandon and Mr. Kiwi in Northern California, shipped 8/2/2007 (see below for more details) Tiny with Momo and MommaD ------------------------------------------------------------------------ This thread is a continuation of this, and marks the official and formal launch of Tiny’s ongoing adventure. We will be posting, and documenting all of the stops along the way through photos, and whatever creative elements our members wish to provide of her journey. The following few posts will be updated regularly by Tiny’s coordinators. Want to get on the list? Read below. Again, special thanks and MAD PROPS to Pro1, Mau2003, Boulder, Gareth.ky, and all of the good members and donators who brought this awesome project to life. The entire FlyingGiants Staff and Crew salutes you! .

For those who receive Tiny here is how you put her together. Assembly method: 1.The wing slides in the fuse up to the servo. The bottom of the fuse is GENTLY bent around the servo and the wing is then centered on the fuse. 2. Insert the 4 wing bolts. 3. Plug the servo wire in the reciver in its AILE port. 4. Secure the battery under the velcro strap. 5. Turn on the TX, plug in the battery, and GO FLY!! Last edited by Pro1Foam; 08-01-2007 at 09:22 PM. |

My contribution to the project is building a map of where TINY has been. Pilots post flight logs with a zip code or link to Google maps and I add the flight location to the map. Each point on the map has the flight log & links back to this thread. So you can follow TINY's progress from the map if you like. Sample Flight Log: Location: Huntington Beach, HB Pier. California, 92627 Date: 8/1/2007, 1:00pm Pilots: Max Duncan & Brett Bayless Duration: ~2 minutes Photos by: Brett Bayless Notes: small iddy biddy insignificant tear in EPP near top right wing bolt. Will leave repair up to the Norcal gang. Here is TINY's current Location (thats not a pic, its the live map!): View Larger Map Last edited by gareth.ky; 08-26-2007 at 10:36 AM. I got my flight in 07-22-2007. That afternoon I picked up Tiny from the Hobby shop that had held it overnight for me. I then drove to the site that I had in mind. As I pulled the wooden crate out of the outer cardboard box, I was impressed at the fantastic job Boulder did on building the crate. Top notch work. I then opened the crate and was also impressed with the inner box and Tiny itself. The place I had parked the van was the parking area in front of the oldest Catholic church in Indiana the St. Francis Xavier Church, also known as the Old Cathedral. After assembling Tiny, we took a photo behind the van, standing in front of the church. Then we walked over to the lawn in front of the George Rogers Clark Memorial. It is a unique landmark in south western Indiana. As I started on the flight I noticed a park ranger walking my direction. You can see here at the bottom of the steps in the second photo. She was a nice lady, she explained that the area in front of the memorial was a National Historical Park and recreational activities were prohibited. I explained the story of tiny and explained that I just wanted to make one short flight to take some photos then we would leave the area. She said that it would be alright and even stood to watch the flight. You can see her in the bottom left of the third photo. After a short flight, Tiny was placed back in the crate and ready to be shipped out to the next person. Monday afternoon it will go back on the big brown truck headed to southern California. Madmax will be the next to open the crate and let Tiny get some more air. Flight information Location: George Rogers Clark Memorial, Vincennes, Indiana. Date: July 21, 2007 Time: approx. 3:00 pm Central time Pilot: Mike "Wizard" Martin Photos by: James Lee Martin - Wizards father
