As the big maiden weekend approaches, our friends John Light, and Jared Siskinc are putting the final touches on the XXXXXXL Staudacher. For some reason, every time I look at this thing is seems to just get bigger and bigger! The boys finally decided on a power plant for this beast, and with some motor mount modification, the Staudacher now has a sweet new Hirth F-30 1042CC 4banger on the nose. Yes, that's correct. 1042cc's on a model airplane. That's 10 DA100's and change! The new motor will give the 300lb AUW airframe roughly 600 pounds of thrust spinning a godzilla sized 64" 4 blade Powerfin prop. That's just about 2:1 power to weight and with the huge control surfaces, it is absolutely doable that she will be 3D capable. As the final days count by, our friends from Missouri will be working feverishly on the final touches, and soon, the legendary hangar queen will fly. Stay tuned right here fo FG for all the latest Staudacher news. And you betcha, we'll have full video coverage of this semi historic event. ![]() All the best - FlyingGiants Crew

OMG!!! I think max is right......that thing looks bigger every time i see it. It makes you wonder if a guy really put his mind to it , he could just build a full scale.....they go for about $350,000.00. And from the looks of this thing , it aint to far off.

Here's the diff......... -no instruments -no radio -no brakes -balsa wood -no FAA flight certification (yet at least) -crash a this one and the pilot doesn't die After all that 350K doesn't sound too bad

I don't know but from the looks of it I think it's for cooling purposes. Seeing how the engine is below the cowling entrance holes, I would guess they're going to duct that air downward somehow. I'm not sure, but it seems like that might be right?

This is gonne be awesome!! How many years ago was it that this project was started? It seems like I remember hearing about it when I was still somewhat new to the hobby. I've been flying for nearly 10 years.
