FlyingGiants At The San Diego RBAR!

Heya Crew! We're packing our bags and heading to San Diego today for the practice rounds of the 2007 San Diego Redbull Air Races! The weather is looking a little dumpy, and we're bringin' umbrellas just in case! MadMax, Jason Shulman, Matt Szueber, and Pedro Brantuas will be pumping back all of the action to FG.com in form of photo floods, writeups, interviews, scores and more! We've got full blown back stage pass press credentials, and by the end of the weekend, we'll have piles of media ready for your viewing.

Today, Thursday, is the practice day. If all goes as planned, we'll be taking a press bus to the TRW - or temporary runway, at Brown Field in SD. Flight time is aprox 3 minutes from this location.

Friday - big race day where the pilots will laying the smack for best times in the course. We will also (hopefully) be attending a huge party on the deck of the USS Midway, along with personal interviews with the pilots and their birds.

Saturday - finals, and more press tours, and awards.

We're freakin' STOKED to have the opprotunity to have the credentials we do, and we'll try to cover as much as we can of all the action.

Max,
What were we thinking. What we should have done, is arrange a Flying Giants flag to be flown in the North Enbarcadero (it has the best viewing by far) so people could meet up. Is it too late? The practice day to day was incredible. I cannot express how impressive these plane are.!

Max, Jason and Matt got down to lace around noon time, so we loaded up the bus and headed to the bay. Of course along the way, Mr. Jason Shulman spotted and "In N Out" so a stop for lunch was in order. Thanks for lunch Max.ffice.
We got down to lace South Embarcaderolace around 1:30pm, got our gear out and toured the site for the best picture areas. The group got a little distracted when the Red Bull girls came by on bicycles wearing Red Bull coolers as back packs, but other than that we stayed focus on the event coverage. I'll be posting some pictures soon on the group covering the event, and as soon as Max gets back home, I'm sure you'll see some great pictures of today's practice session.

Boots.... make that Capflyr..

Dude.. time to wake up and smell the coffee! The CAP would...does...has...and will continue to be KILLED in Red Bull! Not a chance in hell that my little ol' CAP would ever even make a dent in the racing there . First; these guys are GOOD! they all know how to race these things around the course. Second; most of them have made major investments in time and $$ to compete. Third; No Edge, no win! Forth; Have you seen what these guys are doing out there? People call me crazy? SH&^... LOW< FAST>OVER WATER>10+ G's in the turns> I'm to old for this game!
I would love to have tried it when it was new. But for real, the investment has just become too great. Most of the guys have dedicated RB planes that do nothing but race. Put this on top of the time they need to go world wide... Just not doable for me.
My good friend Mike Goulian keeps me filled in on all the details. It's just too far out of my league!
one more thing...I can't stand the taste of Red Bull.... but Kirby put it best..

1st Red Bull, sucks
2nd Red Bull is okay
3rd Red Bull........you're a USER!

All that said. thanks for the vote. I really apprct it. Just look for me at the airshows doing lazy old loops and roll with the odd wifferdill of flipdeedo.

No doubt Matt.. I was really surprised to see that Extra had purpose-built a new 300S variant just for racing with a lower drag, non-symmetrical wing.
