2.4 ghz 9303 - potential frayed wire issue.

Hey guys several of our members have PM'ed me asking I put up an alert on the JR 9303 2.4 version. Apparently the voltage regulator next to the gimbal is cutting into the wire bundle that rests on it. It appears to be a simple fix, or you could do some preventive maintenance, OR better yet, if you find your wires to be frayed, give Horizon service a call. BUT, since this problem is confirmed with multiple pictures on multiple radios, I would suggest either checking the condition of your radios wires, or having Horizon tech dept give it an eyeball before flying the radio again.

Now, we are in no way slamming JR or the 2.4 9303. Its a great radio, and by making sure this little issue is fixed or avoided, it can continue to be a great radio.

The picture attached is 1bwana1's radio, and it shows just how sever this problem can be.

The guys have a thread going on here to discuss the problem and the fix.

p.s. hopefully this message from the good folks here on FG will reach far and wide to the current 9303 2.4 users and save some valuable aircraft and liability.

How exactly would you check for this defect and where exactly is it on radio? The picture doesn't help me to identify where on radio it is.

Thanks for help....

I checked mine and there was a very small amount of wear to the cable. I wrapped mine with a few layers of electrical tape.

I would like to see someone from Horizon address this. Horizon has always been good, but they need to quick to respond or lose a lot of credibility.

I was thinking about upgrading to that radio from my humble but capable hitec optic 6.

Well, can you say Futaba 10c now. Thanks FG for the heads up.

Is this issue only on the 2.4, I have a 9303 synthesized radio. I had it in for repair, but not sure that horizon is aware of this, or checked mine for this problem. Thanks in advance!!

Re: 2.4 ghz 9303 - potential frayed wire issue.

Guys, once again, don't slam JR or Horizon, little unforseen issues can arise with a product.
I would say if you were thinking about a 9303 2.4 radio, still think about it, just cover the wires.
The promlem is not a huge deal, its a simple fix, but not knowing that the problem may be in your radio is a big deal, so just check them. Horizon is a great company, and there service is amazing as well, so please just use this message as a warning to check your wires...

Thanks.

Re: 2.4 ghz 9303 - potential frayed wire issue.

And here it is!..... This was found by a buddy of mine at our field a few weeks ago.... he his cut thru, and he lost control of a fomie (thank god). After locating the problem himself, he fixed the wire and added some nylon spacers to the case(Yes this leaves a gap in the case close but he did not want to be down untill they resolved this issue..... he is awaiting the advise of the fix from horizon......
Funny thig is, after he found this he checked out a few other guys radios at the field and found the same this hapening......
I have not opened mine up yet to look at it (i do not have a ton of flight time on it tho either) but i was curious if anyone knew if the 12x had a similar set-up and if we should look for this there too........ ???
