Damn here I am a few years past my last BFR. If I could get checked out in the plane, I would have done it for free becasue; one, that would be one bad ass entry in my log book. Two, I'm PAYING to take that long to get there commerical, with layovers and plane changes.

Looking forward to my first shootout and now seeing Matt fly.

That said, Dave Johnson and I have been trying for the last few years to make this work. We both feel that the addition of a full scale aerobatic demo will be the icing on the cake so to speak. I'm really excited about coming down and being a part of this world class event. (seeing as I'll never be invited for my less than great RC skills)
I plan on doing a demo in the CAP 580 Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Please understand though, Dave and the crew at the Shootout, as well as me understand that we are all there for the RC flying. The best of the best. The latest and the greatest of who;s who in the RC world. Dave was very concerned that my demo was on time, short, and not interupt the flow of competition. So, underdstanding this, I promise a fast paced, kick as@ demo. If you haven't seen my performance before, I hope you enjoy it. If you have, I hope you're looking forward to seeing it again. I really appreciate the invite and the time given to me to 'show off' for a few minutes. Thank you for everyones time and efforts to make this happen and taking a break from the business at hand. TO WIN THE SHOOTOUT!!!
Also, a huge thankyou to Dave and the crew at Desert Aircraft and my friends at Greatplanes/Futaba for their support of my show.
Until then...arrive safe... see you in the air...and kick some AS%

Matt-C

ps...the FAA approval is still pending as of 10/1/08, however, they have been doing their best to get the waiver through in time for the event. Right now, 90% chance of this working out....It better...the CAP 580 leaves Thursday! The two inspectors at the FAA have been busting their butts working on this, as has Brian Howard.... the effort is huge and much appreciated. Fingers crossed. Best guess...plan on some prop noise come noon Friday!

But being the niceguy that I am, I just signed up for an XM radio subscription he can listen to through my Garmin GPS unit. So, I wont want to hear any complaints from the kid!
It looks like it is well on its way. It was outside my office a little while ago. Matt, ask your ferry pilot about his landing in Guthrie, OK.

MAtt did a heck of a job in Martinsburg.I think he out flew the other guys. Nice guy too. Signed a bunch of swag for me.... and the kids.... and for me again. Hope our town can keep him coming back. I was lucky enough to come across one of his 1/3 GP Caps that he used to own. Top notch! Can't wait for the new 580! Thanks again Matt! Hope to see you again next year!-Dan

Who was it Tom Soucy or another one of the Eagle flight team who had a ferry pilot catch a wing tip with a crosswind on landing with his eagle .
When the pilot taxi'ed in he looked him in the eye and asked what he was doing. The pilot apologized and tried to excuse himself from the situation. He was then told (with a smile) to get back in the plane and practice now because he wasn't going to fix it twice...
So Matt has the right attitude, any landing you walk away from or at least get it off the runway to the hanger with out the FAA notification is a good one

Any landing you can taxi back with less than full throttle is a good one. The picture was after the the landing so it couldn't have been that bad. Actually the landing wasn't that bad, the bounce, skip, and go around on the first try wasn't that hot.

You sure you weren't thinking of one of my landings at the STL Huckfest?

Okay, so I asked the pilot about the landing. Told him I had eyes everywhere...he hummed and hawed a bit...said, well...They said they were landing one way but it was a tail wind....tried it and thought better of it and came around and landed ino the wind....
So...not allowing go arounds in my plane....I FIRED HIM! He was bummed....he just got a new place for he and his wife and 5 kids... all under 5 years old. He's a little in debt, but he broke the rules. He begged me not to, but I let him go anyway. So DAN....well done! Thanks for the heads up on the bad landing! Dell and the wife and 5 ...wait...I think it's 6 kids now will be fine. Too bad I heard about this before he caught his flight home... I cancelled his ticket too. He's on his own to get home now. Think his wife is sick as well and he has her medicine.... but he'll be home in a week or so if he's lucky with a ride east. She can wait...
Again...thanks for keeping me posted about the progrss of my CAP.

I'm off to bed now to sleep like a baby!

Matt

(for those of you that don;t know me...the above was just for entertainment...I didnt fire anyone...YET!)
