| Hey everyone! I realized (and so did some of my USRA competitors) that there were a few typos in the article that need to be corrected. Actually, I recognized one of them - the max. displacement in F-1 is 4.88 (80cc) not 8.8 cubic inches (145cc). Now that would be awesome! And in Dominator, they only use 5% nitro instead of 15%. That's almost like using water! Nah... These planes are still plenty fast and provide some great racing excitement! Finally, the proper link to the USRA site is www.usrainfo.org. I never did learn how to type! Sleepy, we'll have to get Scott Hanbury to get you some proper press credentials so that you can provide the video documentation of the awesome racing action for eveybody! I used to fly Q-500 and Q-40 Pylon, back in the day. Man, glad I gave it up!! I got tired of turing circles at less than 6 seconds a lap for 10 laps!!!! It may not seem fast, but coming around pylons 2/3, you just WHIP around there, hoping that there is noone close to you, so that you guys do not antenna sword fight!!! Don't get me wrong, I loved racing. Even won a few events! Now that I'm in GS stuff, this is where I'll stay!!!! I love every miute of it!!! USRA stuff is fascinating!!! There is alot of technology in those planes!!!! Certainly appreciative!!! Sleepy, are we still on for Sunday???? Later!

OMG.... I just remembered that Holly was one of guys that Marty interviewed at the 2006 AMA Show.... LOL... He threatened to throw him in a trash can. He's a good dude, had a chance to talk to him at length about racing's past, present, and future... Check it: http://www.flyinggiants.com/gallery/...to=961&cat=556

WR.., I think you'll find that GSAR is a little different than the AMA pylon you saw. I know you'll enjoy it! Drop by and say hello in Ashtabula. Bunky, I did some Quickee stuff before so I know what you mean about "whirling around" as you fly the course from the middle of it. Fortunately, here we stand at regular pilot stations and fly the course out in front of us. No dizziness..from spinning around at least. And your comments about GS are right on....the greatest! Now if I can get one of these F-1's to hang on the prop....... Max, Yeah, we all laughed when we saw the AMA Show interview months ago with Holly. I was expecting to see feet sticking out of a can in the next frames! He is a great guy and is the perfect person to keep order on the flightline. Split Pin, If you contact APC, they make what is simply called the "F1-GT" prop that we race on the gas GT-80's. They also make a 20x15c carbon fiber prop that some use for testing on the alcohol motors. I would bet that neither of these are in their online catalog so you will have to inquire about them directly. |

Right on, there Robert!!!! Loved flying pylon, but now there is this GS love in my life!! Can't seem to shake it!!! I've always wanted to make a USRA event, but never did.. I still enjoy the speed of things, but can't do both!!! It does get quiet expensive............Seeing a F-1 bird HUCK IT!!!! PRICELESS!!!!! Would definately be worth the price of admission!!!! Bunk~

| Hi Everyone my first post after Robert Vess hooked me up with this site. I'm a GS racer and also the USRA VP, It was great to meet SleepyC sorry I couldn't get my Biplane in the air for you on Saturday but it was all good the rest of the weekend. Robert is being quite modest as most of you know. Let me fill you in with some of his accomplishments in USRA since last year. Last year was Roberts first year with us. We had emails on our forum about him and Larry Lewis pulling some all nighters to put their planes together for racing last year. When they showed up at Rantoul for the first race they hit the ground running. The biggest problem was they had two identically painted airplanes so if they flew in the same round the turn judges had a difficult time keeping track of which plane was which. Despite that it was clear that Robert and Larry would be tough to beat. Robert's smooth style was clearly evident and despite not having the fastest plane he did quite well and served notice that if you wanted Rookie of the year and any other honor it would be over "Team Potential Flow" Robert was faster in Ashtabula and had the GT racers scratching their heads about what he did to get faster. I guess due to some lame excuse about working and paying the bills he missed the Parker race but had still amassed enought season points to be the USRA Rookie of the year for 2005. Ratoul this year had Robert as the class of the field and he even brought along Joe Ra.....ski who was equaly well prepared. Winning the Gold race in Rantoul we all knew that Robert was putting all that school learnin to good use making a slippery airplane. For the most part he checked out in almost every race. Now Ashtabula proved to be another story...... In the Friday heat racing his biggest rival (Speed Daddy Scott Hanburry) and he were dukeing it out on the course when they got to rubbin. Some how Scott kept of flying and manged to land a amost completely undamaged airplane, (he was flying a borrowed plane since he crashed his primary plane in the Rantoul Gold). Meanwhile Robert was still flying a severly damaged Kelly racer without a horizontal stab and most of the vertical stab and rudder missing. His engine was still runing and the plane flopped around abit and stabilized inverted and he flew it into the tall brush on the far side of the runway with no futrther damge to the equipmet but the airframe is a write off so Robert has already seen, "The good, The bad and the very ugly" of racing. The cool part is that Robert took it like a racer and I'm sure (hope) he is back to give us all more lessons on how to go fast and turn left. Racing is not for the feint of heart or wallet but the rewards are a great bunch of people who are here to help you succed, an addrellin rush that's as much fun as you can legaly have with your clothes on and a challenge that will make you a better pilot and modeler. Split Pin, If you can't get race props from APC let me know. We have two Aussie racers Dave Brown and Ross I forgot his last name. They haven't been over this year for a race but they usually make at least one race. Sparky69 |

| what might work is a variable pitch propeller controlled by a flight computer. The computers only input is airspeed…. As the airspeed increases the pitch can Increase some also… It would take a lot of work to get it to beat a reg prop. |
