Here is my set-up and thoughts of the Katana 46V2 airplane. When i got the plane in I rushed it to the shop to get started on it. I recently crashed the V1 of the Katana in a rollin harrier. (motor problems ) Anyway assemblying the airplane was really easy. I am really not the best builder in the world. Usually my granddad builds my planes for me and I fly them. This was actually one of the first ARFs I have put together by myself. I found it easy to assemble. What I notice when I got the airplane was the wired landing gear. In passed they have worked for me but just didnt last long. I decided to go ahead and use it. Tail wheel I went ahead and used it to. After finishing building the airplane it was time for the electronics. I am using Hitec HS-645 servos with a 4.8 NIMH 1200mah battery. Regular Futaba rx with a 9c Futaba radio. While trying to pull the wires through the tail clumsy me accidently let the other end of the string in the front slip in the hole. So basically I had to finad a piece of thin wire that could bend the finish pulling the wires through. This was probably the hardest part of making this plane. The servos though went in really good and tight. The hardware supplied with the model was really good. Everything just screwed and snap into place. Very Easy! While programming the plane with the 9C radio I notice I did mess up installing the elevator to the horizontal tail. I wasnt getting max deflection. I was just getting around 43 degrees. But flying wise it didnt hurt. I just usuaully like to have 50-55 degrees on my elevator on my profiles. Rudder I was able to get full deflection and also my ailerons. (It is a ton of aileron) The landing gear supplied with the plane I went ahead and used for the first couple of flights. I later then made my own gear from another airplane and put on there. Wire landing gear for me does not last long if you do harrier landings. I would suggest replacing this part. Engine was I first put a Super Tiger 51. This was the same engine that went out on me on my rollin harrier that made me crash my V1. It was the only engine I had at the moment. The motor fit right on. It flew the plane well but for me all super tigers are sluggish engines after they have been run a while. It was on its second year and I notice a ton of power lost in that motor. I flew the plane with this motor for about 3 months and finally decided to replace it. Since the Super Tiger was a heavier motor and was a 51 I decided to try a Thunder Tiger 46 Pro. But this motor is atleast 3 years old I know. I placed it on the plane and it was a WHOLE new airplane. Since it was lighter I was able to pull out of hovers better. 4 stroke wise I would try to get the YS63 or a 4 stroke around a 60 range. I am not a big 4-stroke flyer even though my new Katana 70 is going to have a YS110. (Will talk about that one later on) I believe this airplane flying wise is great to learn 3D manuvers like hovers, rolling harriers and harriers. The one manuver I like doing is the Death Slide. Which is basically you climb altitude and go into a knife edge and let the plane fall in a knife edge. It falls like a rock but is so stable I can do landings starting way above tree top level. O by the way if you dead stick this type of plane dont try to get it back to your feet. It falls with no power. Most of all profiles like this do this though. These are my thoughts of this airplane. Below are photos and video of the plane. If you have any questions of comments please ask!!!! Will be glad to help you out. I have got the Katana 70 size in the box ready to build. Will be posting about this airplane later on. Will be putting a YS110 in it. I fly all my 46-sized profiles (with TT46Pros) on nothing but a 12x4 APC. I f you're running a Tower/GMS muffler (and hyou should because it *really* helps) the 12x4 will give you lightning-fast spool-up and huge amounts of thrust. In my experience the 12.25x3.75 is just too much weight to get good throttle response and the 11.5x4 is a bigger aerodynamic load that the 12x4 but provides no additional thrust. Around these ways most folks run TT46Pros and, after trying all the other options, they seem to gravitate towards the 12x4 every time :-) |

Sorry havnt had time check what prop I have on this plane. Ive been meaning to do it. I usually call it a flat apc prop. Ive always used this prop for 46 size 3d airplanes. I might fly my 70 size version for the first time this weekend. Will write up a review for it as soon as I get the motor broken in. I usually never go straight up with a new motor till i burn a couple of tanks through it. Just nice easy smooth flying at first.
