Hey my saito 82 is mounted further forward , you may wanna check the C.G to see if you can mount the engine further forward and you will have plenty of wood to grab! I only had to dremel lightly to make mine fit,and I keeped it straight so I could slide mine back and forth to find my correct C.G! I also had to slide my fuel tank to the wing to get proper fuel line clearance! GL!

I noticed you didnt use any washers in the front motor mount to off-set 2% did you have any problems?

Just got a new ys 70 I bought 2 chin yaks one 4 spare parts but im gonna set it up in the other one. same block as the 63 but suppose to have alot more power!

Mount your servo under or on the access panel in the top of the wing and run the arm straight to the servo!

Yes its blow-by use a piece of fuel line on the nipple and run it down the gear and zip tie it a couple of inches from the wheel, it will keep it from getting all over your plane!

Better yet, JB Weld a small brass tube from an old tank onto the side of the muffler, then run the crankcase line to it.

Chinn Yaks are back in stock at EF!! WOOOHOOO!!! I ordered one, although I don't really have anything to go in it, I figured I would have one for when I do feel like throwing one together. Last time I felt that way, it took about 8 months for them to get them back...

Where doesn't the oil leak out of on a .82? crikey my plane looks like an exxon oil leak after evry flight! i swear the oil even leaks thought the metal case!

There are only a few prototypes of the YS 70. This engine was supposed to be available in September 2009 but got delayed till end of December/January. They're not even being manufactured yet as we speak.

2 weeks ago I saw the announcement on centralhobbies.com the engine would be available in October so last week I ordered the Yak from EF. I actually fly gas only but love YS engines and always wanted a new profile. I used to own a Mojo 40 until it literally fell apart.

Called CH a few days later and was told about the delay. Luckily I found a nice-looking used YS 63 on RCU.

Are you guys using that little fuel tank that came with the kit? It's only about 8.3 oz.

I'm using a Vess 13x6 prop, AR6200 Rx, A123 1100mah battery, Hitec 6965's for the elevator and rudder, Hitec 635's for the ailerons.

Hi Martin,

You'll love this plane.
If using standard size servos at the back please don't mount the engine until last.
The included tank is ok for about 10 minute flights with my Saito 82.
That 63 looks nice!
I use a 14x4W but as said above, I fly a Saito. Spektrum DS821 allover, HS81MG throttle.Ar 6200 in the left wing, A123 1100mAh in the left wing as far up front as it goes. Had to use a Higley brass nut and spinner to balance. I did the mistake and went by pics in the manual for the engine position. Wayyyyyyyyy tailheavy. I will probably put the motor 1/2 inch forward when I decide to fix it.
Tip: If you want, you can make an internal hole to the balsa sheeting in the wing center to route the two aft servo wires through.
Ditch the included alu landing gear and get yourself the Goldberg nylon filled.
Glass the wheel fairings or carbon strip them. They tend to break from vibration.
Do not fly fast, stab does not like it. The 6 inch pitch is quite fast.

I'll finish the plane and temporarily mount the engine with some rope to see what the CG is gonna be like. Thanks for the tip. Where do you have the CG at at the moment? I like my planes close to being tail heavy.

I'll reinforce the wheel pats with some fiber cloth. Maybe get the Goldberg gear. I rarely make tough landings (knock on wood).

With the Mojo the stabs also broke on me. The entire airframe was falling apart, mainly because it was a very poorly put together ARF by Billy Hell RC with gaps of occasionally a few millimeters between joints. This EF is much better put together. If the stab starts failing, I'll take it out and build a new stronger one.

Martin,

Lift it from the point where the front of the canopy meets the fuse and it should be level. More tail heavy than that and you have serious balooning inverted which I do not like as it screws up the inverted harriers.
Another point is rudder. It is insanely effective. Keep the throw down on this. With a little wind it does knife harriers. Insane!!!

The CG indeed is a strange bird. See image. With the YS 63 at this location and the tank taped at the other side, the CG is 6" from the LE with the Rx battery all the way up front.

It seems I need to mount the engine even more forward. I think I'm gonna set the CG at 6" with the battery all the way aft so I have some room for fine-tuning.

I'm using Hitec 6965 digitals for the elevator and rudder that have about the same weight as standard servos.
