side note... they should have put that hinge much closer to the corner.

Well to prevent this issue is to first glue the hinges of the elevator by saturating the slots on both sides of the hinge with thin CA. Then slide the hinges in the stab and proceed as usual.

A trick I learned from Craigc5 is to drill two evenly spaced holes into the hinge slot which will give the glue a path all the way to the bottom and saturate more of the hinge.
