JFYI....I had a converation with Kevin Kimble, and he cleared up the PYTHON issue for us. A while back they built a CUSTOM Pitt's M12 for an aerobatic pilot, painted it black/yellow, put the snake graphic's on it and called it the PYTHON. Then QQ had Mr. Trueworthy build his 40% PYTHON with the 200. It was a M12 that was modified to QQ's specific's. Then QQ arf'd the 100cc PYTHON. There isnt a "Python Airplane" they are all one off custom's based on the M12. Now presently, Kimble ent. has built a new custom Pitts M12 utilizing Titanium and Carbon fiber , hence the Moniker "TI-12". It is not a PYTHON. This new bipe was purpose built for QQ specifically for precision, not 3D. QQ will be releasing an ARF version of the TI-12, but no size or date has been stated. That is the word I got from Kimble Ent.

Mike, I didn't write that the QQ Ti-12 is intended for precision only. I said Quique is so happy with how it flies that he is using it for precision at this event. I don't know if he plans to use it for other aspects of competition or not. You would need to as Quique about that. At this moment, only one R/C model of the Ti-12 exists and Quique has it at Clover Creek. He second one is still under construction at this time so that he will have two of them in time for the Tucson Aerobatic Shootout. We are nearly finished with the one and only full scale Ti-12 now and it should fly in a few weeks. One key point to make here is that QQAC will be the only one allowed to produce the Ti-12 in RC model form since we trademarked and copyright protected it and then licensed QQAC to market Ti-12 R/C models exclusively. The full size Python, based on the Pitts Model 12 design we own, was not built for an airshow performer. It was a personal project for my father, my son, and I and took several years to complete. We finished it, flew it and showed it at SNF 2006. Shortly thereafter, we got an offer for it that we could not turn down and the airplane was sold to Sweden where it now performs in airshows all over Europe. The Ti-12, while similar to the Python in the sense that it too is based on the Pitts Model 12, has numerous changes to the design that make it unique as compared to the Python. Some of these changes are internal and cannot be seen on a walk around but most are evident if the 3 different airplanes (model 12, python, Ti-12) are studied carefully. Think of these special one-off airplanes as R&D for the model 12 kit. The Ti-12 is being custom built for a client here in the US so it will be around for all of us to enjoy in the future. Getting back to the future release QQAC model of the Ti-12, I do not know in what size it will be offered. Since these are not yet in manufacture prototype, preproduction sample, and then production, expect it to be a while before the Ti-12 is available for purchase. One thing is for sure, it will look and fly great in whatever size QQAC offers. Kevin Kimball |

Thanks again, I miss understood your statement about the precision part, I apologize. Just trying to share the updated info you shared regarding the differences in the designs of planes. Regarding the R/C models, were there changes done to the "TI-12" model that is different from the first "PYTHON" ? Again, my intentions are not to mislead. Mike

Mike, Taking another break from fitting the carbon fiber cowling on the full scale Ti-12. I'll post more pics to our website later in the week. Cool. Thanks for helping spread the word on this airplane. My intent is to help keep the info "close to center" so there is not confusion down the road a ways. I tell ya', it does feel GREAT to finally be able to talk about the airplane a bit. This is what Reza is referring to about the 'cat being out of the bag'. We can breathe a bit easier now. Som many times at Top Gun or Joe Nall we wanted to say, "just wait until....." but we had to hold back until the time was right. The full scale airplane was initially conceived over a year ago with the paint scheme and name coming along after that as a colaboration between myself, the owner of the Ti-12, and Mirco Pecorarri the talent behind the scheme. Keeping the airplane secret was not only for QQAC and the model comunity but at the request of the owner who still wishes to not be named until later when he has a chance to "spring" the airplane on all his friends and family. I have not seen the QQ version Ti-12 in person so I cannot tell you what is different about it compared to the QQ Python other than this one is bigger than the QQ python I have with a DA85 in it. If I had to guess I would think there are many changes, some small and some large just as on his other designs from generation to generation. Having a world champion design and dial these airplanes in AND actually use them for his competition is really awesome for those of us who buy them. I know it is difficult to wait for info in our "instant gratification" society of email and instant messages. Product development isn't instant so we all will have to be patient as Quique and crew take this airplane from first, one-off example into production. Maybe we should see if Reza can rename this thread or move it to one specifically about the Ti-12. ***Thanks Cracky for fixing the thread title....KK**** Last edited by kjkimball; 08-31-2008 at 04:15 PM. |

Yessirebob....I spotted the 4 pipes the first pic I saw. That is what I was referring to when I asked the differences between the TI-12 and QQ's Original 40% Python w/DA 200 that he debut at Nall last year. And by the way, I cant seem to find that video anymore, of the python/200 demo at Nall. Kevin, I have been following your site on the new Pitt's, but as you say it's a secret for now. I cant wait to see it in person.

The DA200 powered Python at the Nall 2006 I think. Maybe that is why you cannot find the video of it. 2 years ago, he debut the 100cc python at the Nall 2007. This past Nall 08, Quique flew the demo with his 85 CC python. BTW, the 1:1 Ti-12 has a 620 cubic inch, 9 cylinder M14P Russian radial engine custom modified to have around 412hp with special pistons, fuel injection and more trick stuff done to it. The prop is made by MT in Germany and is 102" diameter 3 blade!! Empty weight is expected to be around 1400lb with a typical acro takeoff weight of around 1700lb. Thrust with this engine and prop will be around 1900lb which gives the Ti-12 better than 1:1 thrust to weight ratio. Gonna be a cool ride! |

Kevin, what are ya'll doing at JKE. The model 12 you guys and your customers are cranking out are awesome, the Python was incredible and The Ti-12(from the few photos I have seen) is just amazing. As a RC guy and just having acquired a Trueworthy 41% Model 12 kit my hat goes off to the whole Kimball organization. Job well done. Wes Ryman |
