I bet the 170 would work, and its 6oz lighter than the 150. That would bring the weight down alot, maybe stock muff's, 2 extra cylinders and 4 tuned pipes is alot of weight. Then everything would probably have to go up front to obtain the proper cg. Who know's , I for one can't wait until another big bipe hits the market. I have been looking at the ace/TT pitts' and thinking about making a single place canopy to fit it, lighten it up like my yak. I would have to modify the ailerons too though. clip the wings, hopefully QQ will bring one of these out. He told me a long time ago that the big Python flew like a Ferrari, so whats the hold up QQ/ Wayne....lol

A 3w 212b4 would also be a great choice. A 3w210 or ZDZ 210 would be an ideal choice as well, lighter than the 4 bangers plus way less baffling required.

Well - my TT TOC Pitts M12 will be here in two days. I am thinking a 170 of some type and hoping to have the weight around 42-44 lbs... but I won't know until its here. My QQ Python was nose heavy and since the Truworthy M12's were also nose heavy I am hoping it will balance with the 170 and not need a bigger motor. I'll be aiming to keep the weight down rather than go huge on the motor to compensate. Performance of the QQ 100cc Python on cans and/or pipes with a DA100 is excellent. This plane will have a lot more drag and weight (but also a huge wing area.) I guess I'll find out if its good enough for IMAC next spring. |

Well - I have been bugging Wayne and everyone at QQ for a year to make a big bipe. I do not think they are going to. I have about 10 emails form Wayne saying they are not. So in the mean time I bought the TOC. We can always hope they do some day. One thing I will say is engine choice is a big issue. I have been researching for my TOC Pitts and there are not really any 100% good choices: 3W seems finicky - a lot of the issues and fixes are documented but it makes me nervous the more I read about gaskets sucking in, warped carb blocks, failed ignitions etc. DA170 - is under re-design on a bunch of parts. Soonest they will be done testing is Oct 1 and they have 200(!!!!!) on back-order after that that will take several weeks to clear. Thats what they told me anyway. Good on them to get it right. I may end up waiting for one of these in the spring. ZDZ160 or 210 - seems like a good choice but some folks have issues with blowing out the plugs. I had a Super 80 and really loved it. I am thinking about the 160 Super on pipes. I have read a lot less reports of plugs blowing out on it than the 210. Maybe I read the forums too much and I should just pick one and try it. But they are all big $... and I am hoping for a trouble free engine. So if QQ Aircraft had a big bipe what engine would they recommend? |

I wish we could all get our hands on a byp of this size I mean i do understand the problem with this, its alot of money in an airplane of this size but if you've got people that will pay for it i believe make it, you'll sell more that way. But this is all a business so its all understandable.Kyle | ||||||||||||||||||

I dont know why there are'nt more big bipes out there, there are plenty of people who would buy/build them, heck look how long the H9 46% Ultimate has been around, and they still sell like hot cakes, there has been a few companies making Ulti's but they are getting boring to see. I wish Bob Trueworthy would offer his 44% pitts m12 kits again, I would just get one and build it with the mods like he did for QQ, Cause thats what QQ's Big Python is he showed in 06 at Nall, and this Ti-12 is agian a Trueworthy kit modified also. I guess ther are alot of people who like the standard M-12, but I like the sporty/agressive look of the python/Ti-12 version's. Mr. Trueworthy should just make mods to his kits and sell them as python's/ ti-12's. I think alot of kits would be sold, I know one would for sure...lol

I am getting ready to start on one of his kits and while I was trying to find one I did manage to get Bob T. to come one here and say that he will be sending wood to his laser cutter soon and should have some kits this fall. It appears he gets on FG regularly I would PM and get on the list for the fall run his screen name is Bob Wes Ryman |
