Default Lock ups??

My laptop has been acting different here lately. I am uncertain as to what causes a lock up?? Could it be a hard drive issue??? Uncertain as to what to do........

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a Toshiba laptop that suffers the infamous "Static Electricity" lockup problem. If I touch my computer and feel a static electricity discharge, it locks up every time. This is a well known issue with Toshiba Laptops. The Toshiba problem becomes more apparent in the winter when there is very little humidity in the air.

If you have a different manufacturer, search the net for other possible causes.

Same problem here with a Toshiba, the VGA port on the left side will get me a lot when I go to sit down the computer. I know that I have to do a re-boot when I feel the shock. I am going to have to take it back for repairs as I had one that fried the status LED's, not to mention I smelled magic smoke, LOL.

I'm beginning to get more frustrated with this HP. It has locked up 6 times since I have been home at 1130p. I even went down to the basement to hang my new dart board!!! I am beginign to think that it is HD related........... This laptop hasn't had the easiest life here, but I expect it to be spot on all the time!!!

So, I need to find someone to Ghost the HD over to a new one!!! Jay Yahn, you out there man???

Just like Kitman, this thing is JUNK!!!!!

It could be a heat issue. If it has been in use for a while, dust build up could be causing components to overheat and cause a lock up or shut down. I just went through this with my fathers desktop. I had to open it up and use the air compressor to blow out all the heat sinks. I even went ahead and put new thermal compound on the CPU. This cured all his lockup and shut down issues.
