Pager message cleanup

Hi Crew,

FYI, Today we performed a cleanup of messages in the paging system as it was beginning to affect forum performance. This is done from time to time to make sure response times are snappy. Please keep in mind that this does not occur with private messages.

Would it be beneficial for us as members to keep our pager boxes empty of read pages?

Just let us know, I'm sure the members will be happy to comply.

Kenny, yes, absolutely. When I brought this feature online, I configured it to be used as a quick, "what's up" kind of system without archiving as we can do that with private messaging. Unfortunately I did not flip the right switch a month ago, and the messages piled up to a point where there was a visible slowdown in performance. Thus the purge of read messages.

Go forward, all messages will be deleted after you reply to them, or send a new pager message. Apologies for the confusion folks. If anybody had vital information in there, please let me know and I'll get it from backup.

So did you flip the correct switch to automatically delete the messages or should we keep our pager box clean ourselves?

Ken, all messages previously read, or sent will be tagged to delete after one hour. For example, if you read a message, the messages is tagged to be deleted. Every hour a job runs that will clean them all up.

Keep in mind, if someone sends you a page and you leave your computer for the evening, the message will still be displayed the next time a user logs on.
