Good greif I dodged a couple of bullets today. I was torque rolling my 40% Extra today about 5 feet off the ground, added power and climbed out in a rolling harrier and "POOF" the engine quits. I was only about 15 feet up so I banked hard, flared fast and barely got it on the runway. I open up the cowl to find my ignition battery hanging between the cannisters with all the insulation burned off and the leads touching. If this had happened even 5 seconds earlier that plane would have been toast. I am also damn lucky those Li-Po batteries did'nt go up in a ball of fire when they shorted. Better find some wood to knock on.

The batteries in your pics are lithium ions, not lithium polymers. I've never seen LI-Ions burn or explode.

Ah, good point. None the less I think Dennis C hit the nail one the head ![]() BTW The only thing that prevented the battery from falling our earlier is a Ernst servo lead clip.

Li-Ions go off like Roman Candles as witnessed this past October when Bogan put on a demonstration. Each cell lights off at different times which makes it even more spectacular.
