Talking When it all goes bad!!!

Interesting thing happened on the third flight of my brand new(WAS)2.6m composite ARF Futaba Scheme Extra 330L a few months ago.
First flight was a tipical first flight with setting the trims for level flight, basic rolls and one large loop then landed to check things out.no probs.
second flight I was using the high rates to check roll rates(WOW!!!).
throught these two flights I just ran about 50 oz. of gas took the plane home,
Third flight I was just piddling around with Idle to see if it would for a long duration and then come back up...loooked and sounded fine so the ol' BA#@S grew bigger and then it hit me, try a WALL,50' off the deck top of the stall, that little pointy thing on the nose of the plane just stopped turning!JUST STOPPED TURNING!,.
I was able to get it leveled out just before the plane pancaked the ground putting the left wheel pant all the way through the wing!lovely, crushed the front of the bottom side from landing gear to the cowl but please, please no frettin she still flys and I'm just waiting for some sun shine to finish the paint never knoe it was there but wouldn;t you say that that was the derndest thing

I'm always a little nervous after a long down line or a period at idle. I always give it a 'blip' before adding throttle. What do you think caused the problem?

I do not bench run my engines just bolt them on and go from there.
I do not have much experience with gas engines, but I think when I went on the up line I did not blip the throttle until it was too late, might have been when I pulled up the engine could not get enough fuel

Yep I always blip it to clear it out before doing a wall, blender parachute, etc. Too many motors have quit doing that. Maybe it gets loaded up and when you yank the wall it wets the fire?

After a great deal of testing on the ground with a new 100 cc engine, I determined that after idling 10 seconds it will quit every time when you jam it to full. Sent my engine in and not only were they able to duplicate it, but every engine they tested in their shop would do this. I've never had it happen in the air because I always blip the throttle before jamming to full. To help with this issue, I slowed down my blazing fast throttle servo (JR 4735) and I am always aware that on extended idles, bring in the throttle slowly. As to why this happens, even the well known engine manufacturer could not find a reason.

Tony:

Now that makes sense! Add a little expo to the throttle channel. I wish I'd thought to do that.......

Red face Re: When it all goes bad!!!

oo. This gas engine was his first one and he thought he didn't have to break it in. I would have told him to break it in before that happend but he didn't tell me he didn't break it in until he crashed! Lmao
