Heya Crew!! Just got back home in lovely Costa Mesa from a GREAT 5 day NorCal vacation! Hope you all enjoyed the Frisco shots, and to the chat room regulars, apologies, we did not do the castro fly-by.. ![]() I left this thread with a LeadingEdge Article on the killer NBA blimp experience on Friday evening with Shawn, thanks again dude!!! On Saturday morning, I met up with Shawn and Zak West, and shot out to SCCMAS (Morgan Hill) for a day of flying. The weather was unexpectedly windy, but that didn't stop us from pulling out the Uzi (which was a little warped from the trip up in the Acura). We met up with Greg Milosovich (gmilo), and Dan Bridges (DanB) at the field. A little background - SCCMAS is a KILLER flying site - one of the best in the NorCal area. The field is huuuge, and the grounds are very well manicured with plenty of room to spare. Shawn threw together his 40% Fiber Classics Extra, Zak put together his QQ 102", and Greg, the Votec. Zak and Greg put on a killer 3D show in the strong winds, and Shawn attempted to re-create some of the high wind IMAC flights from the 2004 Shootout. We all know Zak West, pilot from the 2006 Tucson Shootout - his skills are off the hook. I wish like heck I had photos, and even better a video camera of his flights. That poor QQ airframe. ![]() These guys are all killer sticks, and it was very cool to have the opprotunity to watch 'em huck. Not to be outdone, I proceeded to bash and crash the EPP Uzi bipe, and tore through 4 props before the day was done - HeyDick knows this drill very well The wind eventually died down, and Zak took a tug on my portable airborne 3d machine. The long grass proved to be a very good place for soft landings. Zak then pulled out the silver Align box - it was time for a T-Rexion (all credit to Jesky). Zak's pretty darn good on this puppy - hurricanes, grass choppin, rainbows, double pumping the entire time. I was very impressed. Look out Shank Circuit, I think we'll be seeing alot more of Zak in the near future. After a day filled with laughs, we packed up, hit the road for some lunch, and called it a day. BIG props to the SCCMAS crew for the welcome, you guys have a great site and I can't wait till the next time I make it up there!! Sunday, before the 6 hour drive home, Momo and I headed over to Bayside Flyers to meet up with Brandon (3dkid330) and some of our other local friends. When pulling up, to my surprise, guess who I saw? My good friend Paul Beard!! I had no idea this was his local field, but putting two and two together, Milpitas is only a short trip down the road. That was definately a cool surprise. After meeting up with Brandon, his family, and a bunch of new friends at the BSF, it was finally time to see what this kid's made of stick wise. As some of you may know, Brandon took 2nd in the 2006 Giants Style Video Contest, and from the video, he looked like a decent pilot. Man did I underestimate his skills. Brandon gassed up his QQ102, and headed to the pilot station. Power up, full speed down the runway smoke on, he immediately threw it into wall, pulled over the top, full speed inverted in the opposite direction on the centerline. Pretty impressive wow factor. The next 7 minutes included very low, on the deck direction reversing straightline harriers, KE's, blenders, high speed straight line rollers down the centerline, and just about ever other trick in the book. Brandon's pretty much the only giant scale 3d pilot at BSF, and when he flys, everyone grabs a chair. Keep an eye out for this kid, at 14, he's off the hook. Wrapping up Sunday afternoon, we said our goodbyes, and the FlyingGiants NorCal invasion came to a close (Pardon the lame term, but that's all I got ). The Northern California arena is full of great pilots with even greater attitudes! After 4 years of doing this Internet thing, this was the first time I've been up there to make the connection with our FlyingGiants members, and I'm sad to say, I wish I had done it long ago. Thanks to everyone who welcomed me and Momo - you guys kick ass, and I can't wait to do it again. Enjoy the photos!
