I had a trainer almost hit me at the RDRC field last weekend on his solo, I was hovering about 20 yards out and he turned right and missed my plane by inches We where looking for tire marks on the canopy.

It wernt me. It was hucka Dave. The taxi is no more. It took awhile but we got it out of the tree. We did not want to leave the plane because Dave would heve never got the engine or the radio back.

Yeah it sucks my dad's Taxi was destroyed. They should not have kids on trainers during fly-ins. Especially when there's a bunch of guys down on the deck with really expensive planes.

Either way, lets see some more pics!

That's right...it wasn't Justin or Dustin, but there was a whole lot of Bustin'!

Tweek was flying his Taxi down the backstretch of the field when a trainer flying well below him suddenly went "kamikaze" and pulled up right through his wing. NOT GOOD!

The two planes plummeted to the earth in a bunch of pieces. So the Tavelling Circus rescue vehicle was dispatched for a recovery effort. The only problem was, the fuse of the Taxi (with all the useful and expensive stuff in it) was parallel parked about 40-50 feet up in a big pine tree. These guys stayed out there for a couple of hours throwing rocks with lines tied to them up at it in an attempt to get it down. An impending thunderstorm cut that activity short. So the team took a break to rest their throwing arms, pack up their stuff on the flightline, and "science out" recovery method #2.....

...Our wives were at the nearby beach all day while we flew at the event and had Larry's truck. So he pulled out his Bat Phone and called in a stop at the local Lowes to pick up several lengths of PVC pipe on their way back to the field. Heck, it had now started to rain so they couldn't play in the sand anymore, anyway. Jacqui was a trooper and rolled up with the girls and the goods as we waited out the rain shower. Here's Dustin and Larry working from the command vehicle.

OK, now we had the great plan, the materials and manpower to support it, and the desire to get that darned plane out of the tree. So after the rain let up, we went back to the scene.

Step one - move materials to the recovery site.

Yep, the guys finally got it down about 7pm. Thanks to everyone who threw their arms out and wasted their afternoon helping me reclaim my gear. With two back surgeries, a shoulder surgery, and the other shoulder needing the knife, I'm useless when it comes to stuff like this type of airplane recovery. They saved about $900 worth of mostly undamaged gear for me (engine, radio system, servos, batteries, switch harness, mounts, spinner, etc, etc). I'll post pics of the remains shortly.

We laid out the remains, and with the RH horizontal stab recovered from the trainer and bits inside of the RH wing panel, one can see where the trainer went straight up through the RH side of the airplane. Pretty cool crash, I wish it had been on video! Chris has already procured another unbuilt Taxi for me from a guy he knows that bought one and didn't build it, and with the gear recovered buy the crew, I'll have Taxi II up and running pretty quickly.

Dave
