Jose, I tried your suggestions yesterday and I am still having trouble getting this thing started.
Let me know when if you will be out at the field one afternoon I need some help getting this running.

Thanks

True, but fortunately, they're also unreliable, as a dud hit right next to a fuel depot.... (or that's the rumors)

Event Report:
25th Annual Ray Gordon Memorial Jumbo Fly-In
Harrisonburg, VA

Josh Bunn called me last Wednesday and said "hey, do you want to go up to Virgina Friday for an IMAA fly-in"?. I said, "where?" and he replied, "it's about 4 hours away in Harrisonburg". Well, it's tough to make the "Circus" back down for a road trip so I was in, even though we had just returned from PA the weekend before!

We left Raleigh about 6:30 pm last Friday and pulled our trailers up Hwy 15 right through the middle of VA. The trip was a real adventure, especially when we followed the suggestion of the GPS to take a road that ended up being a narrow, winding, scenic route through the northern Blue Ridge mountains....after dark, in a heavy rain storm, and almost no visibility for 15 miles! We made it nonetheless....

After a good night's sleep in a nearby hotel and breakfast, we headed out to the Valley RC Flying Club field. It was across from the fairgounds in what I'd say was a pretty populated area. There was a business park to the left, I-81 out in front, and a farm with tall silos on the right. The field was nestled right in the middle, but it seemed to work fine! The craziest thing was that you had to literally cross a running stream on the entrance road! It was only a few inches deep (at least when we crossed it) but it was unusual! The public would park outside this boundary and cross a little bridge to the field on foot. Also, the "porta-john" was on the parking lot side of the stream, so the pilots made the trek across the bridge often. Here's some pics of this "moat", bridge, and Josh "splashing" for us as he left the field.....cool!

This club was the home club for RDRC friends Chris Todd (50% Plane) and Wes Ryman (who has just moved to Willow Springs, NC and is joining RDRC!). It seems to have a bunch of active and enthusiastic members. And the field has a bunch of interesting details, like sculptures (pic 1), a neat weather vane (pic 2), and some fun signage (pic 3).

One thing Josh and I were particularly amazed by was the way that they drew and catered to the large crowds of general public spectators! They were rolling in and out all day thanks to radio spots and newspaper coverage. It may also have something to do with the accessible location of the field and its proximity to town. Here's a few pics of the happy, interested, and amazed crowd. Note the bleachers at show center. And club president and "MC" Aaron Swindle in pic 4 kept them all informed with running commentary from the flight line all day long!

OK, now that I have all the "sidebar" stuff out of the way, it WAS a fly-in so I guess you want to see pics of airplanes and such. They had about 30 registered pilots and maybe 100 or so airplanes on site. Josh and I flew a bunch and each and every flight was really applauded and appreciated by the spectators. It made you feel good to entertain them!

So here's some pics I took during the day, in no particular order. And you'll notice that there are a bunch more pics of "folks", too since that made an impression on me.
