Hey Andrew,

Sunday May 28th, 10:00AM is the date.
The last I heard the "upper echelon" doesn't want the charging to be under the roof. I'll have extension cords and I have a 2000 watt power inverter in my van, you can charge there.

Do you plan on going to the Huckfest in Peebles, OH? That's the first big one I'll be at, I should have my Yak with me.

See ya' around this season.

Just a little light on the issues with charging at my contest:

There won't be any issues as far as charging where you want. As long as you have a proper charging "bunker" of some sort, then the club won't have a problem with you charging under the pavilion. We will have extentions all throughout the field and we shouldnt have a need for a generator. We have 5 circuit breakers, each rated at 10Amps. Assume Catering uses one, that leaves 4800 watts. If chargers are drawing 14 volts (to be safe), that's a total of 342 amps available. So if everyone is a power hog and charge at 10 amps, ONLY 34 chargers going at a time! I guess what I'm saying, is there will be no problem. As a guideline, we will require that there are no more than 8 chargers on any one circuit breaker. However, if anyone NEEDS a generator, I will have a my 3000 watt generator and there a bunch of members that have offered to bring theirs just as Ken did.

I've attached a flyer which has the rest of the info.

Andrew:

I'd really love to have you come to the event it would really help make this first year a big success. If possible, would you be willing to fly some type of demo at about noon??

Thanks a ton guys and I'm really looking forward to the contest!!

Scott,

I'll be there for sure with my new foamie design. Along with at least one larger scale electric plane and Heli and a few other things. I'm hoping to have at least 3 foamies RTF for others to demo. I really want more thoughts on how it flys.

Just a thought Scott,

Maybe you could give a description of a "proper charging bunker". Just so everybody is prepared.

Ken:

A proper charging bunker is basically anything that will somewhat contain a lithium fire so it doesn't shoot everywhere. This would be things such as an Ammo case with some sort of sand in the bottom, or somthing like a manufactured bunker from: http://mysite.verizon.net/kevinkel/index.html

What they don't want to see is people charging their batteries out in the open, and leaving them there without being watched. There will be pales filled with sand throughout the site as to ensure safety in case of a fire. We wan't to make sure this event is as safe as can be, but also not hindering our fun throughout the day.

Scott,

I knew what they were, just wanted to make sure everyone is prepared. I'll be charging in my van, just like always

Scott,

If I can make it out I would love to do some demos.
Not to touch on a bad subject, but I have been flying electrics for about 4 years now all with LIPO's and dont understand the crazy rules going on now. All it takes is common sense. You dont charge your pack at full amps if it just needs to be topped off and so on. Also, the fire proof boxes work great to contain fire but has anyone seen what the boxes do if they are not open to let the air out? It then becomes like a gernade and can and will blow up. I know its not you guys making the rules about charging. It is the people who have never owned a lipo before and all they see are the negatives to them.

Sorry getting off the soapbox.

Andrew
