Jaybird, IMO you don't own that guy anything, you were test flying his plane, YOU, didn't do anything wrong, engine flame out, I don't care who you are, chit happens. And since he asked you to fly it for him, he assumes the risk, not you.
It's nice of you to offer to fix his plane, but I don't think you should feel obligated to do so.
All that being said, It's real nice of you to offer to fix it, but buy a new fuse because his engine flamed out?.........wasen't your fault.

Hope he gets his plane back up and flying real soon.

Chuck

The landing gear came out, making two nice holes in the wing and breaking stringers and a former on the bottom of the fuse. When the muffler tubes hit the grass, it removed the firewall and broke the prop. (IMO, the gear should not have came out, it was not a bad landing but the grass was a little rough) It was not really my fault but I feel horrible and obligated to do something. I hauled the plane home and I'm calling Aeroworks tomorrow to see If I can get a new fuse to get the guy going again. I guess that's part of it.

hey jay did the guy ask you to maiden it, and check it out?? or did you ask to fly the plane?? i ask because it makes a difference. if asked to do a maiden and the raido is handed to you. its not your fault if something happens, as long as you are not doing someting stupid. like trying to hover or low inverted passes, you know what i mean. but you should check the major things out before flying. howerver, if you ask to fly the plane then its your fault nomatter what. you are saying i can handle what ever happens. i can save it.. i know it feels bad though. i have been there before. and i allways say to them what i said now. before flying.

It was a mutual decision, I was handed the transmitter from another guy about halfway through the maiden. Landed the plane, made some programming changes and took it up for the very short second flight. He did lean the needles just a hair but I didnt run the engine on the ground as long as I should have. I just made sure it would transition and then took off. I don't think he really expects me to foot the bill, but the transmitter was in my hands, and I guess that's just how I am.

Don't feel guilty as long as you did the best you could in trying to help someone. Like someone else said, I always tell the person asking me for help that I will do my best not to crash their plane but no guarantees. If you are just bummed it happened and would like to help with the repairs, I could see that but their is no obligation in my opinion.

Now as far as the heli/airplane incident, that is majority the plane guy's fault and he should offer to pay. I've had to jump out of the way of Zagi's and trainers while flying my 35% plane. Luckily my plane was in a spot where I could take my eyes of of it at the time. They apologize but I wonder if they would really pay for a 35% plane if I actually crashed because of one of them some time. I kinda doubt they would. In my opinion, if you can't consistently land your airplane where you intend to (not by any people), you have no business flying while other people are in the air. Good luck Mike and Forrest.....

Mike, agreed. Guy should have come up earlier to apologize. But I do see a down side to things here. Forrest probably committed a CARDINAL sin of RC Flying. Never EVER take your eye off you aiplane/heli/etc....

In my humble and honest opinion, the perperatrator is not responsible for repayment for a error not on his behalf. Now, if he were to get shot down, then different story.

Craven "No-head" ------ LOL!!!!!
