morerevsm3- So should I run the summer spray oil 100% straight or mixed with another chemical like diesel? Looks like I can get the summer spray oil locally from Caltex too, bonus! The muffler Iam running on the Moki is a Slimline smoke muffler and it has an internal fluid pre-heat chamber already so should be ok, that said it may pay also to wrap some copper tube around muffler to help vaporize fluid further as you guys suggest that all makes good sense....

Cheers- Marty

best thinned with about 25% kero, the hotter you can get it, the more oil you can vapourise

JET FX, morervsm3 and anyone else looking to use Caltex summer spray or any chemical not normally intended for generating smoke....

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE get a hold of the material safety data sheet (MSDS) for that chemical and read it very thoroughly to make sure you're not putting yourself and those around you at serious risk.

EXAMPLE:

Here's the website for the Caltex summer spray...

http://www.caltex.com.au/cropprotect...ort_summer.asp

Click on the tab marked MSDS.

I have to say after reading it you may wish to think twice about the benefits of smoke generation versus the possible negative short and long term health effects. The implicit warnings on the dangers associated with breathing mists and vapors of the material itself are bad enough, but when you heat it up you could really be asking for trouble.

We're all in this for the long haul, and need to stay healthy in order to do so!

Bill

Bill, good advice!! Iam one for 100% saftey for sure.... having flowen jets for a while now the kero/turbine oil mix is another blend best not inhaled.
I would like to try the summer oil/kero blend and will make sure that no one is within vacinity of fumes with 'smoke on'. Thanks for the advice guys I will let you know how it goes, should have the Pitts ready within the next week, I will try and get some pics.

it is used by full size aerobatic planes here, and is just a light oil, there is no pesticide content, to date, I have sent about 200 litres up in smoke, but not in the habit of sniffing it

Thumbs up Re: Smoke Systems??

Mineral oil can apparently mean any one of the following:

Paraffin oil; Heat-treating oil; Hydraulic oil; Cable oil; Lubricating oil; Oil mist, refined mineral; mineral oil mist; oil mist, mineral, severely refined; Uvasol; Paraffin oils; Mineral oil hydrocarbon solvent (petroleum); Mineral oil (saturated parrafin oil); oil, petroleum; Nujol; liquid paraffin; white mineral oil; clearteck; drakeol; hevyteck; filtrawhite; frigol; kremol; kaydol; alboline; paroleine; Saxol; adepsine oil; glymol; lignite oil; blandol white mineral oil; carnea 21; Ervol; gloria; hydrocarbon oils; peneteck; primol; triona b; blandlube; crystosol; Molol; protopet; bayol f; crystol 325; fonoline; bayol 55; kondremul; neo-cultol; oil mist; penreco; perfecta; petrogalar; primol 355; primol d; tech pet f; Petroleum hydrocarbons; jute batching oil; paraffin oil (class); petrolatum, liquid; white oil; Mineral oil, aromatic; Mineral oil, paraffinic; Mineral Seal Oil; Electrical Insulating Oil; OIL MIST, MINERAL

Bottom line its called Parrafin oil mix with 10% Kero and you will have the best safe clean smoke oil bar none dont be ripped off and buy a brand just make your own and if its not bright white run a primary heating coil close to the head on the exhaust and make sure your spray bar is as close to the exhaust port possible right in the path of the exiting flame/explosion!

Happy Smoke Trails !!!

P.S. Real planes burn it better because they are four strokes and the exhaust temperatures are far higher on four strokes than twos and gas 2 stroke engines run hotter than glow 2 strokes so its harder to get really good smoke from a Glow 2 stroke but not that hard !
