Adrian,

Do you think your Avatar would run better on synthetic oil or mineral. What octane rating would you recommend please.????

If you're breaking in a DA, follow their manual and use LawnBoy Ashless. Why would you want to differ??

For the octane rating of the gas, again, in a DA, use 87. I asked DA and that's what their engines are designed for.........87.

LOL. premature detination could be a problem!! High octane, and synthetic, you would want the run in period to last as long as possible

Exclamation Re: Mineral oil vs Synthetic ?

I hope Shing Pen doesnt mind me posting his email but it may help others who have bought SPE40 & SPE26 engines.

"some engine like DA have niksail plate inside so that need mineral oil for help the break in. but SPE engine are plate the hard chrome . that different . this cylinder are trimmer cylinder . so the synthetic oil are batter . and not need much time to break in. all engine if the cylinder plate niasail are need mineral oil to help the break in - Nikasil liquid plasma need mineral oil for break in. hard chrome not"

Post Re: Mineral oil vs Synthetic ?

Yeah so there you go guys.
It really comes down to the makers specs and what they recommend for thier engines. I am sure you get the gist of what Tomy is saying (in broken english) about the SPE engines vs the DA etc. Different metals require different procedures to run them in.

I decided to use the Motul 800T Synth as thats what the designer suggested and at 32:1 with 98 Octane.

All I need now is to learn how to tune a 2 banger aircraft engine

Anyone live in Brissy that can help?

I am still playing with the motor. I used a tacho the other day which really helped. I hope to be at the field again mid week for more tweaking. Have no idea how long this break in in takes but its like teething with a baby, just with out the sleepless nites.

They are telling you to use mineral because thats the tradition of most that have DA engines which is what you must do. Plus the guys who say use mineral don't own SPE engines!
You heard it straight from the guy who designed it, use synthetic!
Sorry, I am more likely to listen to the the guy who made the thing. The SPE40 should go well with the YAK!
Good luck.
