Went out for a fly with Talbs yesterday, real nice weather and had a flight of me new QQ YAK, oops Talbs YAK.

Talbs handed me the 12X and said take her up and see what you think, couple of flips (already got 20lts through the one fity) and away it went. Sounds nice on the KS 95 rear exits, The power was great considering how new the donk was and on cans not pipes, 150 pulled it around fine. Flew the intermediate sequence without getting a feel for it, I think Talbs said F..... you hit those snaps right off the bat, yep it is a great flying plane, it appears forgiving for the pilots poor inputs (that be me). The guys still gettiing them done will be very happy when they are in the air, the 150 ish or 170 of any brand will make them an awsome sequence plane, look great as well.

Got Mikes Fibre Classics 2.6 330 finished last night, looking forward to testing on Monday when I get back from Port Lincoln, Mike only have the sats to fit and a complete checkover.

Good stuff Cookie,
Just got back from todays flying, in 40- gusting to 57 km winds down at Monarto. Call me mad but i wanted to see how the yak would go in the gale. Forced myself to fly cross wind for the 5 flights for some practice. The yakker wasn't get blown around to much, wing loading and section seem to be a good match for not getting the up and down buffering.
So after about 550-600 kms of driving back and forth to different clubs and 25 litres of yak juice, i'm a pretty happy man. She's all tucked in the shed pluged in to my new ion3 cube,(Thanks Howie) getting ready for my shift off next week.

Pics of the wind sock chocka block and me being the only silly bugger at the field

Wanted to Buy,
2nd hand(good cond) mejzlik 28x12 3blader if any one out there got one they dont want any more after getting tuned pipes or somthing. can't justify a new one as when the 170 gets here i'll need a bigger 3b.

Proudly announces the development of a family of 4 Heavy –Fuel –Engines:
3W – 28i HFE / 3W- 56iB2 HFE
3W – 110i B2 TS HFE / 3W – 157 XI B2 TS HFE

All 4 prototypes can be demonstrated at any time to customers being seriously interested in cooperating with us.
We are interested in selling the complete family of HFE engines including our development costs and an exclusive sales right world wide for these 4 engines.
The production of all HFE engines will stay in Germany. Another solution can be discussed.

The final design of 2 engines (3W-28i and 3W-157XIB2) is ready to be discussed.
A patent is pending in the USA and Germany. From both offices we received their patent application numbers already.

Some highlights:
  • Standard cylinders and pistons are used .The same we use for our gas engines.
  • Standard 3W-ignition (s) with standard spark plug (s).
  • Modified standard diaphragm carburettor.
  • Special air intake system.
  • Cold start system using cartridge heaters only for the cold start.
  • Special mufflers or headers.
  • Fuel used for testing: JET A-1 with 5% oil.
  • No power loss compared to gasoline engines.
  • HFE engines run 30 - 40°C cooler than gas engines.
  • Running characteristics are soft due to the lower compression compared to gas engines.
  • The modified carburettor operates like a mechanical fuel injection system in combination with our air intake system.
  • More details have to be discussed personally.
Some test results:
3W – 28i HFE:
Stable idle: 1500 RPM
Max. RPM 10.000, no drop in RPM was noticed during a 10 min test run
3W-56i B2 HFE:
2 x 3 hrs test run with 6600 RPM, no drop in RPM was noticed
Other 3W-engines can be converted to HFE upon request or custom made engines can be designed.

TD,

This would be aimed at the military UAV market. The US has a single fuel policy which means that all their vehicles (planes, tanks, trucks, boats etc) are set up to run on JET A-1 jet fuel. It can be hard to implement at first but has huge logistical advantages on the battlefield as you only need to transport one type of fuel.

Getting a re-supply of petrol and 3W oil is probably quite difficult when you're living in a hole in the ground somewhere in kraplakizstan...

aarr that makes sense thanks rhino, is it right to say that the fuel usage is less so increased endurance on same sized tank

I don't know about fuel economy but cooler running temps would have to be a good thing on a rear engined, long endurance UAV. Just as long as the cold start system and special mufflers/headers etc don't weigh enough to reduce payload capacity.

It may not have many implications in our IMAC/3D planes and I'm guessing the "is ready to be discussed" line is aimed at the big aerospace companies who may want to pay top dollar for exclusive rights to this technology etc
