Question for the Ding Longers. Do I need those springs in the plug caps? Took one off yesterday and the spring shot out and disappeared. The DA's don't have 'em.
Seems to have no adverse effect with the radio gear and the motor runs fine so the cap is still earthing OK. What's the go?

i dont know whos way it is but i trim for vertical
first i check where my cg is once i have that then i set all trims to 0 and fly vertical up then let go of controls and see where she wants to go and then i do a vertical dive and see which way she will pull then i adjust my thrust so i can go up with no trims and check my incedence on the down line and when its done i should have the same amout of elevator input for level or inverted flight

I use pete goldsmiths method. Verticle trimming works just as well it's just a personal preference to use pete's method.

It'll go better with a new ignition battery. Spanking new 'name brand' 4 cell Ni-Cd was a dud. Kept breaking down on one cylinder and ran like c.rap. Tried new plugs etc and stuffed around for a while working out what was going on. Apparently they don't run well on 3.5 volts ...might be time to install those LCD volt meters I've got lying around.

We ran the engine up, everything was fine, i gave it one more clearing of the throat, and i had nothing, replaced the battery and everything was fine.
Dunno what cells Futaba use. I've had trouble with the new NiMh's not taking charge when new but haven't had trouble with NiCd's before. Maybe the new NiCd's have 'green' chemistry like the new NiMh's.
I'm thinking about a LiFe/A123 pack for the ignition. Version 2 DL ignitions will take up to 7.0 volts, the version 1 needed <6.0 volts.

i use 6v enaloop packs for the ignition on my DL100 made up by the local hobby shop havent had a drama with one of them yet got him to make up a pack for my Tx as well best thing i did they are 2000Mah NiMh them work fine and reasonable price as well.

Hi Sean, I hope you meant the other way around........ I reccomend you do your vertical downs first. You are only testing the trim of the airframe that way (Motor at idle). Once you are sure it is flying a nice dead straight downline then turn it around and do your vertical uplines to check motor thrustline.

Then after all that 45 uplines both inverted and upright to fine tune your cg. I like mine to drop ever so slightly to the nose on 45 uplines. (Note if your thrust line is crap the 45 test dosnt work!! Fix it first.)

Cheers Benny.
