Bump. Anyone had any experience with the Multiplex receiver and PC connection?

I read about it somewhere recently, I think it might have been on rcgroups.com, not 100% sure.

Dom Stevens was working on something using a basic rx, tapping into the rss pin on the rx chip and using a usb controlled pll - he got it working well enough to scan but hadn't (last I heard) got to sampling the rss value (its a voltage output) back into the pc. I'll ask him about that tomorrow as I'll probably see him at the field.

I was thinking about building something like this myself, using one of the freely available circuits and a pic or other mpu to handle the frames, I was thinking it might be possible to detect when multiple tx's are transmitting on the same freq by looking at the frames received and trigger an alarm, but then I delved further and decoding pcm frames is not simple and the formats (futaba & jr) are not fully documented.. so that idea's on the shelf for now.

Vince.

do you know what they were seeing on their freq scanners on the day they were getting shot down? (sounds like they wern't seeing enough to alert them)

Apparently, you can connect one of the Multiplex synthesised receivers (with inbuilt frequency scanner) to a laptop PC via USB cable. There is software available from the Multiplex web site that will control/monitor the receiver and log all events that occur in the frequency band being monitored.

Not sure if they mean it can scan all channels at once or just one but it might be useful if you wanted to know if radio hits were coming from interference generated within your plane or from an external source. Or perhaps you could do some data loging and use it to find the cleanest frequencies at your club. Certainly cheaper then a spectrum analyser.
well that sounds maybe useful if only for one frequency at a time. computers are good at doing lots of things very quickly, there must be some way they can help here.

and like you say Vince, something that detected when a second transmitter switched on, but its too late then isnt it - maybe something that detected a transmitter ABOUT to switch on ( ha ha)

NEW ITEM that may be of interest. Futaba plug in Spektrum Module with receiver that supports data download (air speed, temp. etc) to display mounted on TX. Claimed to have 8km Ground to Air range (probably while cranked to 100mw). Apparently 12 & 14MZ users may have to wait a bit longer than 9C users.
It is thought that in timeit will also support video downlink.
When I get more info I will post it.

Good news for those who are keen to try the new DSS radios!

The MAAA appears to have, today, updated MOP058 to authorise the use of the Spektrum DX7 on any RC aircraft without limitation (as opposed to the DX6 which is only approved for use on park flyers and small electric helis):

http://www.modelflight.com.au/spektrum/spektrum_inc/model_aeronautical_association_mop058.htm

Interesting to note the caution about interference caused by carbon fiber etc. Partucularly since some folks have suggested that DSS will be the answer to this growing issue. I guess only time will tell which is true.

The other types of DSS modules advertised in various forums are not yet authorised for use in Australia so if you were to use them you may find that you are not covered by MAAA insurance if something was to go wrong.

Cheers
Jeremy
