I will purchase with a credit card online but ONLY through a secure web page.

If the page is NOT secure, I will call and order over the phone.
I will NOT put credit card info on a non-secure page...ever!!! I would advise you not to either.

IMHO.

I shop online but I will only buy from a company if they have been around a while and they are established I.E. DA, Troy Built, Tower Hobbies etc... or they have a local store front that I can go to in person. But, I won't pay online! I will call that company after I browse their site and find what I want and verbally make the transaction. I just feel safer that way. The security measures for safe online CC transactions are for the most part fine, but I consider it a gamble to put out secure personal credit card info over the net. I have shopped online this way for a while and never had any problems and have never been ripped off or lost the the money I paid.

I've been shopping online for years, but from now on, only with established names. I bought a jet a month or so ago, and decided to go with a company that I had not heard of, but they did have banner ads on a popular r/c website. I strarted to get a little nervous with some of the delays after the order, so I cancelled it. I soon found out that he had closed his business, and he disputed my request for a refund. In the end, I did get my money back, but not until after I had notified the FBI, BBB and gathered all info to sue the guy in his home town.

Do yourself a favor (if you don't do it this way already)... NEVER fund a Paypal transaction with anything other than your visa card. If you use your checking account or your PayPal balance... there is NO protection.

I used my PayPal balance for a $1700 jet, and wound up disputing the transaction. PayPal decided in my favor, but when the seller's checking account wouldn't honor the refund request... PayPal sent me a F-you letter saying that they had no further responsibility. Since I didn't fund it with Visa, my only other recourse was to go on my own and sue the guy.

Never use anything but Visa to fund your transactions.. the PayPal service will try and direct you to your checking account... but don't do it!!!

Yeah, this was a real suprize. I always carried a couple grand in the account, just buying and selling airplane stuff, and I never had a problem with a buyer or seller. But, the company I bought the jet from decided to take my money and close up shop. I used the funds in my Paypal account for the deal, but when Paypal couldn't retrieve those funds back from this guy's bank... they gave up. I guess they weren't out any money, so they didn't have any interest in chasing the guy.

They would have made the same decision if I had funded it with Visa, but at least then I would have been able to dispute it through Visa and rest assured that they woud get the money. I would up having to report this guy to the FBI for internet fraud, contact the BBB, and talk to the Clerk of Court in his county about how to file a suit against the guy. When he figured out that I was serious, he made good on the refund.

So, in the end, I got my money back, but from now on, I don't keep a dime in my Paypal account, and I'll always fund any transaction with Visa.
