Don't even mess with flying again.......Pack it up with the prop/spinner you plan to fly and let DA (the engine brand experts) look at it. Your going to lose your plane or worse have the prop shear on the ground and someone is going to lose some blood. |

I saw a couple of people post about torquing the prop bolts and there were a couple of different numbers involved....does anyone know what DA recommends for torquing the prop bolts?

Tony, How often (after how many flights) would you recommend checking the prop bolts with a wood Menz? With my DA-100, I have about 20 flights on my Menz and I use an "L" shape allen wrench to tighten the bolts. Even with me tightening so tight I expect something to break, at least one or two bolts will be slightly loose after 4 flights. |

Once after the first flight or two, then every dozen flights or so should suffice. I do my CF (excluding PT models - they are as soft as wood!)stuff after the first two flights and then whenever I get bored or need to take the cowl off I will do it again.

| If you dont want to loose your prop in flight, I suggest you check your prop bolts on a regular basis, regardless if it's wood or carbon. I check mine every couple of flights, it doesn't take long and I have never lost a prop since I started doing this. Before that I was pretty complacent, and only check after the first couple of flights after fitting the prop. After I spat off the prop and spinner, my pocket quickly reminded me that I was wrong. Also as a matter of safety, you should check regularly!

I had this happen to me on a zdz engine about a month ago. I'd ended up being the prop bolts bottoming out in the hub. I have heard of people using loc-tite on prop bolts, but never oil. What is the benefit of oil? |

Also make sure you use the 12.9 hardness grade cap screws. People have different ideas of the grade of bolt to use, I asked Dave Johnson about it when he was downunder.
