Default Re: DA-100 tuned pipes set up

An update on my setup, too. My ES Composite pipes are holding up flawlessly, they come on the pipe smoothly and at a relatively low RPM (around 2.5-3K), and I am getting 6700RPM after only two gallons through the engine on a Mejzlik 27X10 - and SUPER quiet. Oh, and the plane only weighs 26.3 pounds!!! However, after flying it a bit, and having some interesting experiences, I wouldn't have minded an extra pound, in more wood and more glue throughout the structure.

The pipes look very interesting. What does the complete setup cost and how much more does it weight than standard mufflers?

So Greeves, MTW RE-2, or ES composites?

Which should I use?

Pros / cons?

It depends of your goal:

ES: lightest pipes but expensive. Some guys reported defect pipes (pipes cooked without garanty) but most customers are happy.

MTW: cheaper than ES and same weight of canisters. You know DA customer seupport?

Greeves: Most expensive and no real RPM gain but good midrange and quiet.

I have greeves pipes. They are currently being installed on a 35% extra 260 from Dalton Aviation. They are HUGHE. Lots of modifications to get them too fit.
But they look sweet.

Thanks for all the info. What sort of performance improvements have you noticed?

Smile Re: DA-100 tuned pipes set up

I will use the DA-100 with MTW pipes in a 2.6m Yak. I look forward to see how this works... if these pipes perform how the look like, they will perform flawless

No results yet and i am still buildiing the plane. The MTW tuned pipes are new on the market but DA tested 7 generations of pipes with MTW before releasing them to the market and i think i am the only one posting infos about these pipes.

What RPM does the engine come on the pipe? the mid-range? do you have RMP's?
Thank you,
Jim
