I've got a DA-100 that has been giving me a hard time lately. Its difficult to get it to draw fuel on it's first start of the day. I manually set the choke (no choke servo) After it's been started, each subsequent start during the day is very easy. I've noticed it's all but impossible to get this motor to choke after it's been sitting for 1-2 weeks. A quick shot of gas into the carb from my fuel pump will always get it going. I've made sure the needles aren't too lean...though i've noticed it starts slightly easier when the low end is sloppy rich. The motor runs great in the air...great power, not too hot after a flight, has a slight mid-range burble... I have another DA100 that can sit for weeks then start right up after just a few flips. Obviously it seems to be going dry after it sits for a few days. Is it something as simple as just needing a carb kit? I sent this motor in last winter for a check-up...the plugs were replaced, new gaskets installed, and I believe a wrist-pin replaced...don't remember if the carb was cleaned/checked though. Any suggestions on what I should check/change to solve this hard choke problem? |

Hello Some things to check: Is the brass choke plate worn on the edges which could be keeping it from sealing against the carb wall? (I assume the ball detent has not been removed) Any signs of an air leak around the carb base or reedvalve? (Shows as a wet fuel spot) Check for any pin holes in the fuel line and where the fuel line connects at the tank and clunk. If none of the above helps, I would check to see if the crankcase pressure pulse hole that goes through the carb mount and reedvalve is clear. Occasionally, uncured sealant can migrate to the hole and cause problems or debris can block it. The carb screen could be blocked or some other passage in the carb. There is also a chance that diaphragm or other internal carb parts need replacement. If the problem persists, let us take a look at it. Thanks

WOW! That was FAST! Thanks! I will go over each of these suggestions...it has to be something simple. the motor just runs too good otherwise. If I don't have any luck solving this on my own, then I'll just send it in...the end of Ohio's flying season is almost here anyway. |
