I understand your frustration, luv2fly, and original poster. If I were told that I was getting a new version of a product, or if I ordered a product under the informed assumption that it was the updated version, and I didn't get it, I'd say that I would be rather ticked off!
Here is the real kicker in the deal. I HIGHLY doubt that Chief will pay the shipping cost for you to send it back to them from Dubai, so you'd be out that cost, as well as the waiting time. So you are in a pickle!
Here's what I would do - be satisfied in knowing you have a proven, high performance engine in your hands. Sure, it's a tad heavier, but it's still a powerhouse. Enjoy it, and NEVER do business with Chief aircraft again.
If the extra hassle and cost is worth the 6 ounces, then you already know what you have to do.

You are absolutely right. The cost to send it back to the U.S.A and the long wait are not worth the 6 ounces.I will keep the engine. However you expect from a big company like Chief aircraft to at least offer to replace it.Something which they have not done.
Thanks a lot guys for your support.

I agree. Unfortunately, Chief is not known for going out of their way to do the right thing...

If Chief misled you that is certainly wrong but there is not much difference in weight and performance on the new 100. If I were in the market for one, I'd actually prefer the proven model over the new one. Let other folks find out if there are any bugs with the new 100. I have 2 DA 100's and you'll love the motor. Enjoy.

Well my experiences with Chief have been mostly good, but they do tend to ignore certain aspects of customer service. This one is something I'd not expect from them and it really is too bad the OP is so far away.

One thing you have to remember about dealing with Chief is that the model business is only a small, and I mean really small, part of their business as they are mostly a full scale aircraft operation. They only do it as the owner is into RC models. That being said, returning stuff to them is just like returning parts for full scale stuff, free freight is NOT going to come your way no matter how much you complain or threaten. Then add in the time to ship....

I was actually a bit miffed when I bought a new DA-100 early this year only to find out the newer, lighter version was coming out a month later. I called DA and talked with them about the changes and decided the original version I had was perfectly capable of doing what I wanted, and the only real difference was 6 ounces of weight. So I kept it especially seeing as the Compy it's going on will probably need the extra 6 ounces up front anyway....

I think it is pretty bad to (advertise) the new lighter version motor and sell a guy 6000 miles away an older version. I am in business and sell people stuff all over the US and I dont think I could get away with pulling a fast one like that. I would bet anything they knew exactly what they sold him.
