Default connections

Is it ok to plug/unplug my aileron servos directly to the expander rails instead of having a short pigtail for each lead ?

Hi Joe,
Actually that is the best. Look at it this way. I have measured a 0.20V drop across a standard R/C connector at 3 amps. This means that each and every connector in line with your servo will have a 0.20V drop across it when the servo wants 3 amps. So, keeping the number of connectors to a minimum will get more voltage to your servo. Also, the pins on the PowerExpander will not wear out, what will go first is the socket in the male that plugs into the PowerExpander.

Ok thanks! I was thinking the pins on the expander would wear out.

Just my 2 cents but continously plugging and unplugging does wear out the pins and they will loosen over time. I would like to see some sort of clip that would go over the lead ends on the expander to prevent them from slipping off.
I lost one elevator half in this manner when the connector slipped back...of course at a fun fly when i was doing a demo flight with my AW260 35% The flight back and the landing was a real crowd pleaser!
I have since put a tie wrap over the leads and a small bit of silicone to keep things in place. My four aileron leads are short 6 inch extensions and these plug into the ail servo leads and are quick clipped before every flight. Has worked flawlessly for two years!

Hi CapCanuck,
The pins will not wear out, the gold plating could though. I use 30 u" of gold on my connectors which should last a really long time. I will see if I can think of anything that would help although I have only had a few calls that had any issues with retention. Thanks for your feedback.

They don't wear out. I had a PE Pro on a 35% airplane for over 300 flights. I would always plug and unplug the aileron servos. Last day it flew, the pins were as tight as the first time. Never had a loose plug.

Hello All,

I just bought a Power expander 14MZ. Will be using it with a JR R1221 receiver and two A123 Fromeco batteries. I need a help on the following questions:

1. Do I need one or two switches?
2. I wont be using regulators. What will happen with the servo speed if on the first couple of flights the battery voltage will be higher than the voltage of the batteries at tthe end of the flying day. Having no regulators, the voltage will be lower at the end than at the beginning. Do you thing it will be perceptable this speed change?

Thanks,
