Default Re: Ion Cube 12v power supply

Good to know I'm not the only one the Cube does this to. .5 amps takes forever to charge! Maybe this 13.8 volt power supply we've ordered is the answer....can't say it's defective or whatever if I'm not giving the full voltage to it!

btw...nice avatar!

Well, as you know, the problem with the converted computer power supplies is that they put out 12v regulated. Most of the other commercial power supplies put out 13.8v. From what I am reading here, you need 13.8v in order to charge 3 cell lipos with the Ion cube at something more than 0.5 amps.

That is my thinking also....since the voltage never displays over 12.1 volts on my unit when it's charging like this. Just completed rewiring the power cord from the battery. Gold plated bananna plugs soldered to high quality wire leading to gold plated battery clips. All soldered perfectly with either a torch or very hot iron....I teach a class on just soldering alone, so hopefully I know what I'm doing! Will see as I recharge this afternoon. Going to try with the vehicle off and running to see if there is any difference.

OK, the 13.8V Pyramid power supply came in today. Very heavy and large, not what I thought it would be...this thing is a beast!
Immediately made cables for it, as it does not include any and charged up a low 3 cell 2000 mAh LiPo. Set the Ion Cube for 2.0 amps........and there it stayed! Held almost exactly 2 amps through the entire charge and within one hour I was finished! Have many different batts to try on this new home setup, but very pleased with my initial results. Check out the pictures of the size comparison with the Ion Cube.

I am from the UK and have an Ion Cube,I purchased the pro peak power supply from ripmax and have had no problems. It has a 13.8V regulated output with upto 20 amps of current,i can charge 3 pilos at the same time without problem.Get yourself a decent power supply with 13.8V output and you should have no problems at all.

This supply will put out a constant 18 amps, and peak 20 when needed. I'll probably never see more than 6-7 max with my current r/c set-up's.

I charged my 3 2500mah li-po pack for my transmitter with a 12v battery hook to a battery charger a I didn't have and problems. Now my triton would say error input voltage. From my understanding the Cube does care how to provide the voltage(battery, power supply , etc.) as long as it gets it. I do agree that a 13.8(like the one am using now) or 12.5 power supply is better because it provides a consent voltage. The cube is power hungry, and when charging 3 li-ion it will drain a field box battery pretty fast.
