Default Soldering on a Sahara Regulator, help please

So I have 2 Sahara regs with deans in and out I have changed my set up a bit and now I need 3 JR out. The kicker is the regs are unused and I am afraid to cut off the deans and start soldering on the PCB. Is it hard to do ? I am a soldering novice.

Ideally, I would like to send the regs back for a pair with 3 JR out but they are over 30 days old so poo on me.

So what is the best / safest / least chance of failure way to go about this, advice appreciated.

I would just cut the plug itself off and solder and JR plug on to the existing leads and not mess with the pc board, it should work just fine. Just be sure and use heat shirnk tubing over the lead after you have soldered them. I've done it with no problems.

To prevent any harm to your PC board.. create a pigtail with a deans connector on one end, and 3 JR's on the other end. The Deans connector has PLENTY of amerage throughput available to handle the max throughput of 3 JR connectors, and you haven't ruined your regulator. Or.. there's always the old fail-safe option... E-bay!

luv2flyguy you have the best avitar on flying giants its hilarious.

My set up is two 2600mha relions to a Wolveriene switch to two Sahara regs with each reg to its own Jr R1221 reciever. I wanted to have 3 jr inputs to each receiver for 9 amps of power to each. I guess the pig tail option will be the best I just dont really trust my soldering skills.

The biggest thing to remember in soldering is to get the right kind of solder. I don't remember if its silver solder, acid core, or what, but it should say that its for electronics.

Anyway, just strip the covering off and twist the leads together for the 3 pigtails. Slip a piece of shrink tubing over the twisted wires, and push it back out of the way for now. Then, heat the twisted wire up with your iron to the point that the solder will bold the wires together. Next, heat up one lug on the deans connector, and melt a dot of solder on the lead. Next, hold the two together and press them together with the soldering gun. When they melt (could be just a second or two, depending on the type of gun you use) remove the gun and hold the connection still until for a second or two.... that should do it! Now push the shrink tubing down over the new soldered connection heat it up with a heat gun and you're done with one connector!

Is strange... sometimes they go perfect every time, and sometimes you just want to throw it all away and take up fishing. The beauty of making pigtails is that you can start over and over, without getting into your wallet too deep! Good Luck!

A regulator usually has only a positive and negative wire lead. You should not require three wires to break out of a Deans connector. The JR receivers I'm familiar with only use two of the three JR connector wires for power supply. The third wire is a signal wire, not used for power transfer.

Thanks on the avaitar, I love it. Use silver solder, you can pick it up at Radio Shack and the red is positive and black is negative on JR connectors and the other is used to carry signal.

I think he was looking for 3 JR connectors, not jut 3 leads. so the pigtail would have one Deans lead on one end, and 3 JR connectors on the other.

Oh, ok. That would actually be pretty easy. Simply tap the prime leads to the Deans connector. Even easier would be to use an Anderson Power Pole connector since you could crimp all the wires in the pins at the same time. I prefer Andersons but a lot of people don't care for them.
