Brian,

Ex Kiwi here but still call the place home. Well if my memory serves me right there is a whoop cacker air show held at easter in Blenheim. Thats a two hour boat ride south of Wellington and if you can make that one you wont be sorry. Of course they have a model RC club there so something will no doubt be going on before or after.

If you want to go South South make a mile through Christchurch, Timaru, Dunedin and them to Gore. The fishings normally darned good but you must go to the Mandeville airport and have a look at all the old rag wing bipes and rare planes those guys restore for a living. Thats worth a day in anyones life. You might have trouble understanding them as they speak with a real Scottish Broag and roll the tongue around an "R" but if you drink a dozen or so Speights tallies you will understand them without any difficulty.

One things for certain, you wont run out of places to fly or people to meet. It truly is one heck of nice place to hang your hat for while.

As for clubs in the South Island they are dime a dozen but likely not too hard to find either. It's a just a matter of getting the word around and they will roll out the red carpet for you.

After much hunting and a final vote from my wife it looks like I'm going to be able to take a pass on winter in Victoria this year. It looks like we will be staying at a cottage north of Auckland in Warkworth for three months starting December 1. Sooooo ... the biggest remaining question is "where can I fly" ... or at least hang out, pass wind, drink beer and tell lies to other fliers. I KNOW that is the primary activity of RC fliers worldwide - the airplanes are just a front. Any advice would be gretly appreciated.
