Thanks guys. My CNC foam cutter has been giving me a good time so last week I incorporated a few improvements to it. I can cut 600mm wide wings up to 1400mm long.

Here is the ply plates for the motor mount. I drilled pilot holes for the T nut prongs and glued them in with epoxy.

Put on some Oracover on the opposing surfaces of the 3/8"balsa discs. This will be the only film on the model.

The aircraft ply I used for the mount is 4mm thick so I lightened it up. Start weight was 61 gms and finish weight 49 gms.

Had to counterbore the back of the mounts to clear the Tnuts which are a bit proud of the ply.

You need a simple fixture to accurately cut the rubber rings. Cut the rubber tube with a new scalpel blade lubricated with a bit of water. There is a bit of trial and error getting the width right to allow for stretch. I ended up with 23mm wide rings. You can see how much the ring needs to stretch to go on.

Simply glue the rubber on with thin CA. Just wick it around the edge, not too much. I have used 2 layers of rubber, I wanted 3 but there was not enough room. Complete weight is 126 gms.

Ok So I have made a plate that the propshaft is screwed to. It has a 2mm spacer to provide spinner clearance. This is bolted to the nose ring so the motor is held in position for the firewall to be postioned.

Cut the firewall from 4.2mm aircraft ply. It is a bit heavy so I lightened it by milling out 2.2mm. Start weight 76gm finish weight 59gm.

All ready to glue in. The motor is tilted slightly to give even clearance on both sides. Heaps of room for the short Hatori muffler, the long one should fit as well.

This is an interesting mount, but I think I missed a step. What is the rubber stretched around? Do you have something else in between the two ply plates?

Have you already set up the front of the cowl with the thrust lines in mind? Will you be glueing the firewall in at a slight angle or will you just shim the motor mount if it needs it to get a good thrust line?
