I rekon a 3m Comp ARF Extra 260 would take the 170 just fine... and you can fit canisters and/or pipes.

Sorry Jeremy, I have no idea about the dates for the fly-in's... I haven't been notified and It is very unlikely that I will be attending - as much as I like to see piper cubs crash due to pilot error or uncharged batteries!

As for the Aerobatics side of things, the next scheduled competition for the south island is in Balclutha at Queens Birthday weekend (May 31st & June 1st) and depending on numbers we will be looking to run both Pattern and IMAC.

I am going to say I was rather dissappointed at the lack in interest in the last pattern comp which was to be held last weekend (20th of April) I'm sure you all got my emails but still I only got responses from about 4 people, 2 saying they would be there and two saying they couldn't make it... Thanks to these guys for replying because I was not about to waste my morning to turn up only to find there were only going to be two people flying.

What were the reasons for no response? I don't mind people telling me that they cannot make it - in fact I encourage that, but what really gets me is when people simply choose not to reply in any way and let me know if they are coming or not. I don't know if anyone did turn up last weekend because I had already cancelled the event and enjoyed a nice sleep in on Sunday Morning. In one of my last emails I asked for feedback - again I got nothing (well with the exception of some rather funny photoshopping from Josh which didn't get ignored!)

I had quite a long phone call with Alec Taylor from down south yesterday and he was giving me a few suggestions about what we could do to encourage more people to attend these aerobatic events, Once of the suggestions was to get a strip of our own dedicated to rc aerobatics, I would certainly be in favour of this however due to the already high number of clubs in Christchurch I can't see this happening anytime soon... Another suggestion was to run regular coaching clinics where experienced fliers like myself and Jonathan can spend the time with individuals and run through techniques for setting up and trimming models and give advice on how to improve people flying. I'd be happy to do this every now and then, not that I would get anything out of it myself but purely to share my knowledge help others out who wouldn't normally get the chance to fly alongside experienced people like Frazer Briggs, Grant Finaly and Jonathan Elliott.

Before we can make anything work we first need your help.. you need to communicate and tell us what you want. A lot of people have some big $$$ tied up in aerobatic models in the south island and it would be a shame to see them all go to waste simply because people didn't want to take the time to click 'reply' and talk to us about what it is they want to do.

There are a number of people who are prepared to travel quite some distance to get the flying they enjoy - take taylor for instance, he gets up at 5:30am and drives for 2.5 hours to get to Dunedin for a competition only to find there is only one or two people flying in his class! I often make the 4.5 hour journey down myself and if it wasn't for the fact I had friends and Family down there I probably wouldn't bother half the time because I never know who is going to be there. I am quite happy to spend the $$$ on flights and go up to the north island and fly with the guys up there who do make the effort to communicate and let people know they are going to be there.

The future of South Island RC/Aerobatics lies in your hands guys... you need to communicate and let us know what is happening and what you want to happen.

I look forward to your comments and suggestions

Regards
Patrick 'Moped' Murray

Hi Guy's
I've been watching the emails that followed the last IMAC round in Dunedin. As a relative newbe to the aerobatics scene and being a little shy I have not been replying or putting my two cents worth in [until now]. As I have just moved to Oamaru from Chch I was unable to attend the last comp in Chch. I'm keen to get down to Dunedin and compete in the rounds down there and travel to Chch when I can. I think its a good idea that when the emails for the comps come round we all click the reply all tab seeing as for most of us, bothing to travel to the next round is a game of is it going to be worth while. Perhaps sending out an email four weeks before the comp would also help as people would be reminded and able to organise family/work in order to make it. As the competition line up hots up over the four weeks other people who haden't replyed or planned on going would still have time to get organized once they realised this comp was going to be to good to miss. I also think tips from the pro's is a good idea I know I would benfit from them. I also agree with the, if you don't go to the comps you won't improve. With that said I hope to see you all in Balcultha 31st May/1st June.
Cheers Louis

If anyone wants a cheap Matrix F3A machine check out my trademe listing: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Toys-models...-152857190.htm

Reserve is a little more than the start price and a little less than the buy now... I'll even set it up for you and test fly it for free!

Yep - Top Secret! naa nothing real special... just something to put my 'freebie' DA 50 into. I just figured I hardly use my Matrix anymore and I'd rather have a more transportable 50cc model for weekend flying.

arhh, heard that you were having a 'Taylor 540' custom build complete with a 3W 170. Winning combo. Nar just making that up.
Do you have any model in mind. I have a Yak 54 lying around if interested or you staying composite?
