RCIGN: Well that was my first time to URSA Pylon races. I sure did like meeting you, I think I will get some guys together and go to again next year. I got some fairly good video on my camcorder. Sure love the sound of those engines wound out to top RPM. Hope you made it home ok...you had a long drive! Take care & Best Regards Capt,n P.S. Some of the best airplanes I ever seen!

The Kelly is a all composite kit available from one of the guys put a post on the USRA web site. Some one will pop up if they have any to sell. I personally have seen more guys have problems landing that plane than any other. It may have to do with the setup but I prefer the designs were the landing gear is mounted in the fuse were it is a much more robust mounting. Short of rebending a metal Landing gear the Polecat design is a great platform. Blue Moon had three at the races but the kits available are real builders kits and older design. The RnR Polecat kit is in very limited production and will take persistance and a 1 year wait for that particular kit (if you are lucky) but it will be as competative as any plane in the class. Blue Moon will have one that we will build for next year. You may be able to pick up a Kelly used from one of the racers. Make sure you get the log book if you go that way. I know of at least one that wasn't raced at Ashtabula, I don't know if it is for sale. Personally I think the Kelly is ugly with the tall fuse but to each his own. The GR-7 with its over 11' wingspan presents a logistical challange and has gear in the wing as well but It appears that there is a Titanium gear strut that makes it less traumatic to repair. I like the Polecat, my 14a has been in the gold round at almost every race for the last 10 years. Raced by at least 8 pilots a real fun plane now refered to as the short yellow school bus. If you want one of these planes, a race prepared plane can't be flown at most normal fields. The first issue is the noise. Straight stacks are a bit loud even the Gt. If that is OK you will need a large runway for landing. We fly ours off a full size grass strip it is perfect, lots of clearway in all directions almost no full scale trafic to deal with.Send me a PM and we can continue our discussions if you want to persue this. Sparky, It would be easy to post if the video was taken with a dgital camcorder. Some camcorders now have a hard drive. Makes it easy to tranfer the video to a computer. My camcorder is a older tape unit. I was hoping some person there may have used a digital camcorder or camera! Well maybe someone will chime in!! Best Regards Capt,n |
