The Ohio USRA giant scale race was a blast!! The weather was perfect, and the competition was even better. It was great to see all of our GSR friends and families again. Tony Husak and the MARCS club put on a well run race and a great steak fry on Saturday night. This was the 10th year for Ohio USRA racing!!! hats off to Tony and the MARCS club!!! All of todays USRA classes are extremely competitive. One of the coolest things is that the unlimited class is growing and is no longer a race based on who can finish. All the unlimited heats were barn burners with every plane on the lead lap fighting it out to the end. The final gold race was won by Kenny Mac by a couple tenths of a second! 195-220mph lap speeds were the norm for unlimiteds with speeds of 247mph at the start of lap 1. The best thing about unlimiteds now is you dont need an exotic or hard to find engine to do it. The top three unlimiteds in the gold race, Kenny Mac, Pete Goldsmith and Tom Keating were all running ultra reliable DA150's or DA170's. A good mix of airframes as well, Stilletto's, Miss Ashley, Bearcat and NA50's were represented. The F1 (alky) class was very competitive as well with a variety of airframes. The legendary GR7, the AR6 endeavor and my new all composite Video Cassutt (see the video cassutt thread by Craig Greening) made for a colorful F1 class. Confirmed speeds for the F1's is in the 165-180mph range. F1GT had several new faces at the race. 3 new F1GT pilots came up from the Sundowner class and are destined to be very competitive. F1GT speeds are in the 140-155mph range using totally stock Zenoah GT80's!! The Sundowner class is settling in nicely with the latest rules and is very fast and competitive as well. The MOKI 2.10 is the power of choice and yields speeds of 110-120mph. This is a plane that you can sport fly at any grass club field. It's usually the fastest plane at the field and lands like an ugly stick. Martin Treats new timing and scoring system allows us to see lap times, turn times and start times along with airspeeds of each aircraft for every lap. This gives pilots and callers the ability to really analyze each heat using the timing data and onboard engine datalogging. Complete results of the Ohio race should be up on the USRA website within a couple weeks. I am looking forward to the west coast race. CJ |

I would have to completely agree with you Chris! What do we tell our wifes, quality over quantity...... or something like that. Anyway the racing was amazing and extremely competitive. I have posted the pictures Joyce took (545 of them) under my user name. Go to "Media by member" under Media Gallery and search for "MartinT" which should take it directly to the album. Be sure to select the album with Mark Taylor GR7 on the cover, it will take you in the correct order of the pictures. Sorry I could not get the album to send me a link? Enjoy! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Ps. Looking forward to seeing all of you in California in the fall. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by MartinT; 06-23-2009 at 08:13 PM. |

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I wish this race wasn't on the same weekend as the XFC. Man.. next year lets get together on dates! For the record I LOVE Giant Scale racing. And unless you have seen it in person, you probably won't understand. It is so Bad Ass, it needs a new word to describe it. Especially the Unlimited class. NEXT YEAR.. lets get a OPEN date, and I WANT TO RACE!!!!

| Found these on Youtube. They look like they are from Heat Racing on Saturday. Who ever took them thanks. On the second race it's Peter Goldsmith's Stiletto winning the race note mine, but I'll take the points! I wasn't in that heat.
