Default Re: Does anyone make Aileron Spades for models?

All aerodynamics aside. What bothers me is that the spade applies positive pressure to help out the control surface in the direction it is already traveling. In electronics a system works better with negative feedback. The spade acts positively, so maybe hooked to a servo there is a chance to induce flutter. To a human it feels great.

When the aileron goes up the spade digs in and really creates a lot of force to rotate the aileron up more - the opposite aieleron counteracts this to give the ailerons a centering effect.
this is true. the spades help if the ailerons are mechanically linked. but in an RC plane they are not(obviously) so when the aileron is centered the spade doesnt have an effect, but when the aileron is deflected the spade diggs in and assists the aileron in its movemnet... this would help lessen the load on the servo, but since the ailerons are not mechanically linked the servo now has to fight against the spade to bring the aileron back to center... so when the aileron is deflected the spade helps, but coming back to center the spades fights to keep the aileron in the deflected position. esentially since the ailerons are not linked together there will be no centering effect as yak55x said the mechanical linkage between the ailerons provides

but if you think about it the aileron being deflected away from center turns into essentially an airbrake and the force of the wind wants to push the aileron back, helping the servo fight the spade. so i know it contradicts itself but there will be alot of figuring out and possibly a few lost models before this is figured out in RC.

the eagle tree might help but i dont see any real major benefit from having spades other than they look cool and add to the scale of the airplane.

DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT an aeronautical engineer... yet, so all this above has come from just me sitting around in school thinking about this. i dont know if this is correct but it makes sence to me. if someone can steer me in another direction by explaining how this isnt correct i will gladly listen(read) and hopefully learn something valuable from them. Thank you
