Wonderful sled! Used to fly one of those for Mountain Air Cargo (FedEx feeder) years back. Hows OCC these days? Well, if you plan a stop, you can then file a DVFR plan with Wash FSS. This will give you and center a better eta for ADIZ penetration (oops, did i say that)? Flight following is a must for this flight. you may also want to take note of your Lat/Long for point of entry. FSS will most likely want that info and well as time. Im sure your bird has the KLN89B GPS in it. Good unit!

Mountain Air Cargo, they're based out of Denver, NC right?

OCC, Pffft. Talk about stepping in it.

Actually it's got a Garmin GNS 530 and a GTX330.

I'll give Wash FSS a call tomorrow just to make sure.

Thanks for info guys.

Do those still work? For some reason I thought that discontinued that. Actually filed one of those a few years ago after a near miss.

You MUST be squaking a code given to you under the DVFR flight plan. I would definetly have flight following through the entire flight and also listen to 121.50 on your other comm. Another thing to note would be to file the flight plan with the FSS associated with the airport near or within the ADIZ you are travelling to and not your local FSS. Review your intercept procedures too. It's not a big deal but if you end up in near the ADIZ squaking 1200 and not talking to anyone plan to be in big time trouble. Good luck and get your most recent NOTAM's on www.airnav.com

Just talked to a buddy that got a 60 day suspension for squawking 1200 in the Washington ADIZ.
This is what he said happened
they where on a visual approach into, I believe Gaithersburg MD. He tells the FO. to cancel IFR. ATC comes back and says cancellation received squawk 4256 contact Gaithersburg on BLA BLA BLA. the FO squawks 1200 out habit, (when issued a clearance like that), they land, the FBO manager tells the captain he needs to call The approach controller. He does... 60 days.
Remember to keep the current squawk in the transponder till landing.

Jeeum if you can file IFR do that

Cool, thanks man.

I'd love to file IFR but can't. Not even close to being current.

Actually filed one of those a few years ago after a near miss.
If it was a near miss, what was the outcome? A near hit is bad enough, I've only had near misses with flying foul, one in an RV-4 that destroyed the leading edge just inside of the landing light.

jk.

Havent flown in there in quite a while but when we flew into DCA we were always given a code word by dispatch before we took off and could only call to get it from a land line, not even by cell phone. If you forgot before pushing off the gate you were hosed. When we would check on with Washington the code word was included or diversion instructions were given. Pax had to remain seated within 30 mins of DCA etc etc. I seem to remember reading an bulletin about some light or laser that would let you know if you were on the wrong side of DCA. But again, this was all more than a year ago and I have trouble remembering what I had for breakfast, (X Rated, I do however remember what I had for lunch today.)
