Wow,
Thanks for the quick update. That's quite a bit SouthWest of where they were looking. I always thought a hiker would stumble on the plane.....not his belongings. That part doesn't quite add up.....we'll see.

It looks like they found the plane he was flying: http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/10/02/ste...rch/index.html

It's amazing anyone stumbled across it in only 13 months. It's still a sad ending to the life of a great adventurer. His book, "Chasing the Wind" is great. He succeeded at things that the rest of us can only dream about.

tough loss, but I'm happy there will be closure for the family.... If you gotta go, might as well be doing what you love.... Its kind of ironic though that the little single engine decathlon is what got him, and not his wild adventures in experimental AC flying around the world.

Its probably only a matter of time... CNN showed the wreckage this morning, and that badboy hit hard... engine was 300' away from the wreck, and it looked like it almost disentegrated on impact.

I hope they do find him.... I'd almost bet you will have a news conference today about something significant.

I just read this whole thread and I just want to say that my prayers are with the Mr. Fossett's family and friends.
The news article about the wallet was strange but, I'm wondering if he knew he was going to crash and maybe threw the wallet out of the plane before it went it as a clue hoping someone would find it to help with the search? Just a thought.
Could he have somehow bailed out of the plane before it went in? and maybe he survived? Hopefully we will know soon!
Shawn

At least an aviation pioneer died in a plane and not from something like a stupid motorcycle crash...

Just Like Bing... he died doing his passion.

It looks like they found remains in the wreckage:

Prayers go out to the family and friends, like Toro said, they finally have closure.
