Help! Need Help Finding Old Aircraft Reords

This is a project i decided to try since my boss is looking for some aircraft his father use to fly. i figure id throw my resources into it. seeing how theres a few folks here that might know where to look.. im mostly looking for information on the aircraft, such as current location.. status. ect... heres the info i have.. these are the NC numbers from the time frame 1940's-50's

Piper J-3 cub NC20862 certificate# 2159

Rearwin Sportster NC15827

Both were flown from Bowman Field Near Louisville kentucky

anyhelp would be great, i know this is a long shot, but worth me asking.

Mike,
Go to the FAA's WEB site, click on the AIRCRAFT tab.
then on REGISTRATION & CERTIFICATION.
Then do a search for ASSIGNED/RESERVED N-numbers.
I Recently researched an aircraft (Stinson 108-3/N595C) that once belonged to my Father and found the FAA site very helpful.
Good luck
Evan.
