I don't know how he leveld off. My guess is he did a parabolic arc (0g). Or maybe pulled into a loop.

Was that a left or right roll?

At the end of the video he executes a near 90 degree roll to the right. It appears he did this, then pulled while rolling back out to keep the wing loaded postitive. Or perhaps pulled through a half loop and 1/4 rolled back out into a steep decent, but that's a little extreme...

Love that clip.

The 757's I fly have Rolls engines that actually make more thrust that the Prats but as the video shows the Prats do a fine job of motivating the -200 airframe. The standardized recovery from such a near vertical position is to roll 90 degrees and unload the wing. This lets gravity pull the nose down. Once you get down to about 10 degrees nose up you roll back to wings level provided you have 200 knots left on the clock...otherwise its a diving recovery for airspeed. As someone posted earlier the airplane was in the 150,000 lb. range. The 757's are rocketships when they are empty. We typically see climb rates in excess of 6000fpm and usually make it from sea level to 41,000 feet in less than 10 minutes if ATC grants us an unrestricted climb.

If you can't tell....I love the freakin thing!

Ya, empty airplane with 3 gallons of fuel on board...LOL
Dan,
I know you can answer this. It appears at the end of the video the plane is starting to roll (pull to vertical, full roll....oh, sorry). I'm just curious, would it be possible for a 757 to go vertical, complete a full roll, or even a half-roll, and push out with enough airspeed to keep flying without stalling???
And, How much altitude does a 757 need to recover from a stall???
Very interesting IMO.
Thanks, Jim

Jim,

1. It's possible.
2. Depends on how deep the stall is. Anywhere from 1,000ft and more.

Kiwi...LOL
But I though ALL airlines have suspended drinks and food, unless of course you have $5.00 for a dried out turkey sandwich.

Are these planes only designed to handle the loads of level flight, or can they do more?

I hope the toilets were empty...
