| Got Thermal? ![]() |
Well, this summer I'm starting my lessons for my Pilots Liscense. When I get out of school I plan to got to Embry-Riddle to become a Commercial Airline Pilot. I heard about the "Aviation Voyage" program over the summer. The description on the website is horrible lol, but I know the 2500$ pays for room, food, fieldtrips etc... Also you do go up in the planes right? It basicly says it helps kids to get their first solo. But there's another program called "Flight Exploration". Which is better? Would it be worth the 2500$+ for either of them? I just sold my kart and have been workin my arse off to raise cash. Since I live in PA I need to pay Airfair and my parents said I could go if I raised the money. Will this help with getting my pilots liscense, or make things eaiser? Will the hours I earn here count twords my liscense? Sorry for all the questions guys. Thanks, Mike |

To me being a Riddle Alum, neithor option sounds great. I would get a summer job at the local fbo doing line service and just start lessons locally. There is no better job for an aspiring pilot than line service at a general aviation airport. 2500 bucks buys alot of hours in a 152 (atleast it used to). If you decide to to do their program (which I'm sure is a good program, just expensive) drop me a pm, I may be able to help out with passes to DAB on my airline. Chris |

Yeh, now that I've mulled it over, I think I'm going to put that twords local. I've alrady talked to a few instructors at my local field and know a guy that can give me cheaper lessons . So I'll have a steady income after the 2,000$ is gone (I work at the beach, well its a lake, in my community) to pay for lessons. Thanks, Mike |

Get a job pumping gas, not as many girls as the beach but it will lead to a ton of flying opportunities. You will get to know everyone at the airport and when you are ready, jobs will fall in your lap.....if you do it right. Chris |

I believe to be a lineman at a airport you have to be 18. You are really suppose to ready a book and answer the questions in the book to get a license for being a lineman. At least that is how it is at the airport I work at. They let me do everything even though I dont have the license. It is just good to have and you learn a lot from it. Filling airplanes is a lot harder than filling up your car. And 9.80 an hour is not bad starting out and still in high school. I only work 3 hours a day though and each week pays for an hour lesson for flying.

Greetings from a former ERAU alumn (Flight Tech program 1977). Get a job as a lineman at the local FBO. You dont need to go to Riddle. You just need to pass the check ride. Also remember that you have to have a buttload of hours before you can fly for a pt 135 outfit. Back when I was flying it was 1200 hours. In other words you will have to get your CFI ticket and build up flight time as an instructor unless you can get a part 91 corp pilot job. Then the mins dont apply.

I left out something: You dont need to go to Riddle but you do need to go to a flight school to get the minimum hours (ie:dual, solo, x-country, inst, etc) and the required endorsements before you can take your checkride (and pass the written)
