I'm not sure about Detroit, but there are no bad seats in San Diego. Everyone gets perfect viewing, and are up close. I am flying in an IMAC event this weekend, so I won't be at the actual races. But if it is like last year, the Thursday and Friday practice and qualifying are the best part of the show anyway, and they are free!

It's definitely worth going to watch. Besides the racing action you get a few airshow freebies as well. The Red Bull heli doing aerobatics (unbelievable) and then a few warbird displays during halftime. The tickets are worth the admission but bring your own water and snacks, don't bring chairs, bring a blanket, and possibly ear plugs due to the 1 million megawatt speakers that are waaaay too loud. You can take the train into downtown and just walk two blocks instead of driving. You can also get there early if no tickets and just watch from the Sea Port Village. I have a golf trip this weekend but had a blast last year!! You will not believe what our full scale aerobatic airplane brethren do with these things so low to the ground. If you are in LA or further South and you are an aerobatics nut, don't miss it.

I'm planning on making it to Detroit. Does anyone know if I could get tickets when I get there or does it pretty much sell out?

I have heard from two people that the Detroit show might be a sell out. I am buying them now... I'd hate to fly all the way there for rain, so I have the Chrysler museum for a backup.

I have pictures posted from the Red Bull Air Races in Abu Dhabi and also San Diego.

Len is Crew Chief/Ferry Pilot again this year for Steve Jones and has been uploading pictures into his Flickr account.

I am flying out tomorrow evening for the race and will be watching from the Coronado Island Marriott. Len has a great room with a view out his window of the course. So I will be camping out there this weekend.

Cheers,

Anna

Great photos. It's cool to watch the planes become more specialized every year.

If you go to the Chrysler Museum during the week let me know. I can get you in for free. I work for Chrysler and can get the museum from my office in about 2 minutes. It will only take about an hour to go through the whole thing. They have a pretty nice gift store in there also.

I am going to the Races on May 31st. I figured qualifing would be more fun.
