In the world of flat motors the Extra's are no where as maneuverable as the Edge or MX2. The Extra is much heavier then either of this aircraft, and less maneuverable. As for the the MX2 being "Twitchy" let me steal and modify a quote from the late Curtis Pitts. Airplanes are not twitchy pilots are. But really what you are referring to is the superior maneuverability of the plane with lighting fast responses to the controls. In most aerobatic planes you think it and it happens. The MX2 nows what you are thinking so be careful what you think. The first time you fly one you think to yourself my god this thing is sensitive how am I ever going to get this on the ground then after a few basic maneuvers you get almost comfortable. It takes 10's of hours to truly get used to it but when you do everything else feels in slow motion. To validate my beliefs just look at my friend Rob Hollands recent accomplishments in his MX2. Advanced World Champion 2008, and US National 4 Minute Free Champion. I think that speaks volumes of the airplane and of course Rob. One title is aresti based flying and the 4 minute Free is airshow style flying which believe me are 2 totally different flying styles. The beauty of being an all Carbon prepreg composite aircraft is that the MX2 is simply the strongest aerobatic plane built today period. My MX2 is serial number one with just over 550 hours on it I routinely put positive 11g and 7g negative G the airplane has been to over 12 positive and minus. | ||||||||||||||||||

Jurgis loafs through his stuff with the SU-31. He's been flying it for a long time. would need to get used to adding left rudder in a climb out though. Chapman was doing some pretty good harrier rolls at the end of his routine this year at Osh Kosh. It's all about the pilot and what you want to see. You've probably seen this vid of Rob Holland and the MX2....?http://www.airshowbuzz.com/videos/view.php?v=6ee40fd7

That was awesome!! So good to see it from the perspective of the guy doing all the work. Makes you stop and think about how much work goes into assembling a series of maneuvers and turning them into a cohesive routine that's pleasing to those on the ground. Thanks for sharing!!

HOLY HELL!! I am so glad i started this thread! That in "cock pit" flying by Rob Holland was the best i've seen to date! I can't believe how hard he jams the flight stick back and forth and side to side. And the little touch and go at the end , then a complete spin , and then land again....friggin' amazing! Thanks for posting that Tim!!! I'll probably watch that another 4-5 times tonight. BTW Tim.........Did you end up picking up your new Aerobat Cessna from up here in Washington? How does she fly? Looked really good when you sent me the pics of her! Last edited by JEFFRO503; 10-05-2008 at 09:14 PM. |

Yep, Picked up the Aerobat in some nasty weather. Made it to Scapoose with 150' ceilings. Then crawled across the Portland Class C at 800 feet, then down the Columbia River to the Dalles. It was clear by the time we reached the Dalles. 18 hours later, we were home! Been doing quite a few rolls, loops, spins, snaps with the aerobat. It exceeds expectations with the rolls, quicker than a Citabria or Decathlon. I'm just having fun and enjoying the airplane.

Wow, those are some awesome videos...thanks for posting them. In-cockpit: awesome! I'm gonna have to try that touch-and-go to roll and back down again... About Jurgis' plain white Sukhoi--jeesh, what's a guy gotta do to get some sponsors? ![]() Doug |

Jurgis, Oh don't you worry. Jurgis changes schemes on his hoopty with the seasons. He had this one last year with the Dead-heads. He also had decked in Arabic last year. Apparently he's hot stuff in the United Arab Emirates. Jurgis has been flying the 26 and 31 for a looonng time. Eugene Frolov w/ the Sukhoi design bureau might have been the only one flying one longer. Eugene helped sell one of the first, if not THE first SU-26 in the USA to Tom Jones in OKC back in the late 80's.
