I've heard of a guy with a Stearman around here who used to do that at local lakes when the water was glass in the morning. That thing went slower and had much fatter tires though. I never witnessed it so it could be a suburban/small town legend for all I know.

The whole secret is smooth water and FULLY LOCKED BREAKS!! Spoke with Fred Johnson about it. He says when you do that it's like being on cement. You have to push down to stay on the water,,,but not too much!!

Locked breaks are what keep the the plane up. If they were rolling, they would be sinking. Pretty much just a bunch more drag happening.
