Smile ULtra RC KATANA 3D

Hi...

I just want to share with all of you my recent airplane that I build. It's been raining and between work and family I haven't yet got the time to fly it bit this week is my deadline and I "feel the need" to fly it.

I made some adjustments has I was building it and I want to share them... Maybe someone has a better solution for me next time.

ADJUSTMENTS:

1- I used one gearbox from COBRI called Cobri Rotating Case($8.99 at Hobbytown USA) for my brushless motor AXI 2208/34. Because of this adjustment I had to reforce both sides where the gearbox fits or else it would be too big and the gearbox might came out of place. This way it fits perfect (I did sand it a little to fit perfect).

2- DO NOT tie up too much the wire tie wrap to hold the ESC or else one of the sides of balsa will break. I did not find in the package any velcro magic tape...I found normal velcro that I had the need to glue it to stick to the fuselage.

3- The push rod guides need ajustments before you put them into place. Be sure that the cable inside runs nice to both sides and be sure that they are well aligned as the cable wants to go and not as you want it to go or else it will not slide easy.

4- I did use 5 minute epoxi for the elevator, stabilizer and ailerons mounting tabs and I would advise the same. Do not use CA glue or else the tabs might not glue perfectly.

5- Because I plan to use this fun fly in the park I did not install the landing gear and even of you plan to install it I advise to make a new one stronger because the one provided is not strong enough to support a more hard landing. I did put the back curve under the stabilizer but will see if it has any use at all...

6- I did cut a bit of the wing covering and got the receiver inside. The only idea I came with was to make a small hole in the leading edga so I could connect the reciever to the ESC with no problem. I did a small hole so the antenna wire would come out and I got a drop of hot glue to secure it.

7- Please pay attention to the screws attaching the wing to the fuselage because they will not allow you to play back and forth with them so if you think about removing always the wing... I wouldn't advise that...

8- The stickers are easy and they really look good... I only used the KATANA one but now I want to glue my logo.

I am using 4 HiTec HS-55, 25Amp Phoenix Castle Creation ESC, 6ch Micro Cirrus Receiver, AXI 2208/34, APC 9x3.8 and one 3S1P 1000mAh (15C) but I'm thinking on buying one 1500mAh with 20C for it.

What do you think about this? Let me know.

Thanks

Hi... just to leave a note about what happened just to share my experience with this model.

The battery that I used is not good for this model. I believe that this model will fly much better with a 1500mAh-1800mAh instead of 2300mAh that I was using.

I don't know if it was due to the battery weight but the model tended to roll to the right side and super easy to loose control. Since the begining I had problems with this fuselage. First the engine mount broke and now it broke when landing just near the trailing edge.

I'll try to buy another fuse and re-configure this model and we'll see how it goes...

I'll try to post my experience then with this model.
